Hello everyone. I've posted before in the Omaha thread. My family and I are going to be relocating to Nebraska soon. It will either be the Omaha or Lincoln area.

My husband and I have been looking on City-Compare.com for a lot of information. We noticed Utilities are rated higher than the national average in both Lincoln and Omaha. How high are they?

We've lived in Idaho, Colorado, Arizona, Utah and California. Can anyone compare? I know in Idaho and Utah for a three bedroom apartment we paid about $60.00 for an electric bill in the winter and summer. In Arizona it was way over $100.00 for both.

We also noticed water quality was not rated high at all. Is the faucet water unsafe to drink from? Thanks everyone

Regarding water, I assume you will be on one of he systems that servie a metro area and not a well system. I am on a metro system (currently Papillion for 20 years and previous MUD for 20 years) and have never had any issue with my water quality or taste. Never have ever experienced an order to not use and never have noticed any quality issues with taste or smell.

My utilities are $197/month: $97/electic, $19/sewer & water, $80/gas
In my case here are the providers:
Electric: OPPD
Sewer & Water: City of Papillion
Gas: Black Hills (formerly Aquila)

2,000 sq ft Tri-level about 25 years old... permanent siding and 6 year old Pella windows with new furnance/air this summer... not sure those budget figures account for the new furnance/air - the replaced one was the original.

I believe Nebraska is the only state in the US with 100% public electric utilities. I think that makes us one of the cheapest in the state, when you average out statewide.
