born and raised in Lincoln. Yes taxes are expensive. If you live on the westside within a mile of O St, you will be surrounded by diversity. If you live anywhere else, you won't.
I grew up by 84th and O. There were 2 african americans in my entire Elem school. 99% white, but that was back in the 70's.
I left Lincoln when I went off to college, and never returned. I like having distance from family.

The prostitution, the limited amount there is, only goes on around 14th and E and a couple blocks each way.

And you know where they are how???
Darn it, I knew I should have hid behind that dumpster so you wouldn't see me!

I've lived in Lincoln for 30 years, including East Campus.
Your statement regarding the "pimps, hookers, and gang bangers" of East Campus is so ludicrous it's laughable. For those unfamiliar with Lincoln, this is the University of NE Lincoln, East Campus, where many ag related classes/buildings reside.
Due to it's proximity to the "Ag" campus, the neighborhood leans far more hick than hooker.
East Campus has a large contingent of college students, a significant number of which are farm-raised nebraska kids, renting moderately well maintained large family homes, built primarily in the 30's and 40's. It's a well established neighborhood with lots of mature trees, and a strong neighborhood association. The actual "campus" of East Campus itself is hihgly attractive, and is home to a true Lincoln jewel, the beautiful Maxwell Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.
Based on your blatantly false claims re East Campus, your initial statement regarding your hate of Lincoln now merits zero credibilty.
Regardless... I wish you luck and happiness wherever you choose to live.

So I move in and as soon as night hit the whole place turned into Compton. Drug dealers, gang bangers, pimps, hookers -- you get the picture. There where several times I saw the police sitting in their patrol cars and watching drug deals going down, pimps walking by with their hookers and nobody seeming to mind that the cops were in the parking lot. I also notice some of the officers nodding to the gang bangers after transactions were done. Now if that isn't crooked cops then I guess I don't understand the meaning of crooked. Also what is up with the demographics of Lincoln? -- but that is another story completely. Watch the news and you'll understand where I'm going with this.

What part of East campus is THIS? Yes drug deals go down there, but they go down ALOT of places. It's mostly weed and it's mostly harmless, but it's college.
Second, I have lived in Lincoln my whole life (that's 23 years if you're counting ) and I have NEVER seen a hooker. I've ran into some scantily clad women on my adventures downtown going to the bars, but I've never seen a hooker or a pimp.
I lived only a few miles north of east campus my whole life so I know the area. I have no idea how you're seeing all this.

I guess what really disappoints me is I expected people to be friendly and courtious being we are in the midwest. Boy I sure was wrong. Everyone here seems to be angry about something, and they stare at you like some stupid cattle that is being lead into the slaughter house. WHY DON"T YOU DUMB ****"S MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!! The thing that really sucks is that I bought a house when I first moved here so now I'm stuck due to the housing market taking a dive. Sorry for the rant, but I would really like to hear from people who feel the same way I do.

I am guessing from your signon you are from Arkansas. May I ask why you moved to NE from here? Just a question. I am sorry you are so unhappy, maybe if you tried to adjust you would find living in NE a little better...normally when people are as unhappy as you seem to be, part of the problem is their own:
As Ailatyler said, you really don't know much about Compton if you can compare a town like Lincoln to a place like that. I was raised in lOs Angeles, we owned a home in Gardena and our oldest daughter was born in Inglewood, many years ago, none of these places are similar to anywhere in the mid west and I mean anywhere...
Bruce81, I know you did come back and say you shouldn't judge an entire area by one remark, that is true. Racist comments can be heard anywhere. You live in AZ, I am sure, if you really think about it, you can remember remarks being made about Hispanics...

Having traveled there for many years on business I won't agree with you regarding Arizona. Southern Arizona...ok...it is a hole. but central and Northern Arizona are beautiful, clean and offers some wonderful aspects to life. As for Lincoln, yes, of all the towns in Nebraska I preferred to pass through and not stop there. It's a dump......and interestingly enough I never really found the folks there particularly warm, as I DID elsewhere in the State.

Dcisive- Lincoln is 100% better then AZ. Having lived in AZ I know that Lincoln is a much friendlier place to live. Arizona is far from beautiful. Yes maybe Northern AZ but definitely not Central. UT is a much prettier state. Phoenix is a dump if I have ever seen one. I refused to raise my kids there. I chose to move to Lincoln because I feel it is a great place to raise a family. Phoenix is over populated and the pollution is horrible. Not to mention the crime rate is horrendous. I have yet to meet a Lincoln citizen who is unfriendly. IN fact, I feel like their customer service in the town is above and beyond.
I have yet to see any neighborhoods that resemble a "Compton" as someone has stated before.
I haven't even seen a neighborhood that resembles Mesa for that matter.

But don't you like how every house, buidling, and topography is the same thing and in the same color for miles and miles and miles?
Arizona is a haven for the color tan, heat exhaustion, retirees, and crooks..

All I have to say is that I've been stuck in Nebraska (Grand Island & Omaha) for 4 years and that I hate it here, this place is horrible.
