40º+ in western nebraska today??
Is it really in the mid-high 40s in western NE? I just saw it on Yah00 weather. This is possible?

Lucky! At least the snow melts to some extent every so often. Where I live, it's great and all, but the snow mountains surrounding my street seem to be ever-growing never melting.

53, actually. It's supposed to be up to 60 by Tuesday. Then Thursday night - snow again, down to the 20's and lower going into the weekend...
I want my winter!!!! I'm not ready for spring yet!!! Two more months... two more months... C'mon, Canada, send another clipper!
(With apologies to my cattle-ranching friends)

I don't know if this is what is currently happening, but sometimes western Nebraska picks up on those warm Chinook winds that come of the rockies and warm things up.

If you watch the jet stream as it crosses the US, right over Nebraska it tends to shift... a 50-100 mile shift south brings down the cold dryer Canadian weather and that same shift north brings up warm moister Gulf weather... so a very minor shift can have artic blizzard and then another shift has the quick warm up... lots of dynamics with the weather patterns because of that (including thie ice when we get the moist Gulf followed by the quick cold Canadian... I Love the variety and to your point earlier, snow tends not to stay around for a long time.
