Default Is Florence a good neighborhood in Omaha to raise kids?

Hello,

My family relocated to the Omaha area from Wisconsin in October 2008. We have been renting however plan to buy a home and close in mid-May to early June. I've done some searching here and have found lots of really useful information regarding school districts and neighborhoods in and around Omaha. It is such a great resource!!!

There was 1 post that briefly mentioned a NE section of the city called Florence as being a "cool" area and it intrigued me enough to take a look at homes for sale. The prices are so incredibly reasonable that it makes me wonder what I DON'T know about the area. We have 3 boys who are grade school age. Is it a good area to raise kids? I'd really appreciate any information or insight that you could share with me.

Cheers, Paula

You'd probably be better off asking this in the Omaha sub-forum, but I always remembered Florence as being a pretty decent area. I'm sure you have some spill-over from the bad parts of North Omaha, but I doubt it's much to be worried about. There is alot of history up there, that's for sure.

Very intriguing area... it has in my mind some of the most beautiful old homes in the metro... it does bump up against the highest crime and highest poverty part of town; however, I would not discount it if you like homes of character and living in an urban enviornment...

I agree with reposting this in the Omaha subforum and getting opinions...
I would also suggest posting on Omaha Forums :: View Forum - Urban Omaha Development

Then balance the opinions shared and get an idea if you want to research somemore.

I spend a LOT of time in the Florence area. It's where my office is. I also own a rental house there. I really like the area!

One key is to stay west of 30th Street.

DM me if you want more information.
