Default Lincoln is a beautiful City

with population estimates at 281,000 in 2005. With low-cost of living, and decent per capita pay range, Lincoln is a booming city just 35 minutes away from the southwest edge of Omaha which is another awesome booming city with 859,000 people in its CSA. Both cities have large houses for a very low average price of around 150,000.

I believe its 240,000 people in the city of Lincoln and 280,000 people in the Lincoln MSA which is Lancaster and Seward Counties

As far as wages per job:
(Lincoln) Lancaster County average wage per job: 32,635
U.S average wage per job: 40,146

Anyway, I agree some of the newer areas like down towards 27th and Pine Lake and Yankee Hill are very nice but not beautiful.

I do think the area around downtown leaves much to be desired though.
Way too many empty storefronts, lots of vacant lots and homes and buildings with plywood covering the windows.

new2pa is on a distinguished road
Pine Lake is a new development so the houses look somewhat similar and not particularly beautiful but The Sheridan area is gorgeous! Lots of beautiful older homes with character, trees, green areas, parks, great schools and the best coffee shop ever just around the corner!

Default Mattden...

I have lived in Nebraska for 28 years out of my 29 years of my life and I rarely ever see plywood over any windows.... Lincoln is a market that housing and commercial type buildings are in demand... If you have a digital camera, please take pictures of those buildings and place them here.... Thank you..

Currently living in Fort Collins and having family in Lincoln, Lincoln seems like pretty nice city in terms of aesthetics, vibrancy, low crime for it's size. Housing is much cheaper and household income is slightly higher in Lincoln than Fort Collins, the "Choice City".

The empty store fronts in Lincoln are nothing compared to many cities I've been to. You can't even compare Lincoln to some eastern cities where it looks like a nuclear bomb went off.

Per-capita Income
Fort Collins: 25,408
Lincoln, Nebraska: 23,803
It looks like per-per income is about 1600 dollars higher in Fort Collins then Lincoln.

Lincoln is a very conserative (one of the most socially conservative cities in the nation) so people are married, married means higher household incomes but the per-capita income in Lincoln is still lower then Fort Collins.

As far as overall crime rate: (rounded)
Lincoln had 5,918 per 100,000
14,067 property and violent crimes for a population of 237,710 people

The national rate for violent and property crime is 3,899 per 100,000, Lincoln had 5,918 per 100,000

These are 2005 statistics.

Lincoln:

Median household income in 2005: $45,790
2005 median house value: $131,700
Percentage of residents living in poverty in 2005: 12.2%

Fort Collins:

Median household income in 2005: $44,261
2005 median house value: $229,700
Percentage of residents living in poverty in 2005: 17.8%

Higher home prices and more poverty in Fort Collins Matt. And of course there is going to be a little more crime in Lincoln, it's a bigger city.

Just which eastern cities are you referring to? Except for the hole in NYC where the twin towers were, I haven't seen anything that looks like a nuclear holocost in any eastern cities I have been in recently.

And in his post about crime, I beleive MattDen is referring to crime rate, not numbers of crimes committed.

Default 85% of Lincoln MSA is Lincoln, less then half for Fort Collins

When Fort Collins has more single people its going to have lower household incomes. Lincoln is extremely married with more multiple-person households.
If they have one person working in Fort Collins, obviously they are going to make less then the married couple household in Lincoln.

Anyway, per-capita incomes are lower in Lincoln then Fort Collins.
And thats what matters, because households vary in size
