Nebraska Town Histories
Can anyone recommend any books or places I can find some town history on small Nebraska towns across the state? The larger towns I am not having any problems but the towns of 1,000 population or less is getting to be a little tough Would appreciate any help anyone can give me or point me in the right direction.

The best I can think of is wikipedia or the town's/county websites. With wikipedia though, only some have extensive histories.

If I remember correctly there used to be a website hosted by the University of Nebraska that had a little page for many of the towns.
I don't have a Lincoln, but that might be a place to start.

I found the link I mention above. This should take you to a map and you can just select the town or towns you are interested in. Good luck!

I am one of the writers and producers of a travel website and travel disk. We have finished with South Dakota and now starting on three other states, Nebraska, Wyoming and North Dakota. Hopefully we will have Nebraska finished in about three or four months and up on the internet. The gentleman that passed the web link on to me has made my job a whole lot easier Some of these small towns do not have Chamber of Commerce or Industrial Development offices that I can contact for town information. This is not really a job, it is really a labor of love. I have always been a big history buff plus I love people and traveling. If you are curious the website is www.travelinfomap.com. Pick a highway off the sign post and then pick a town from the drop down. (In the next few weeks the webmaster is changing that to an interactive map.) Nebraska is being set up in regions and byways instead of straight across border to border highways. The website is free, no memberships required, no passwords, smile One of our audiences is elementary school teachers - great help in the 6th grade geography classes - so I've been told. I'd love to hear what all of you think - the good, bad and ugly. I'm prejudice, I think it is great

Check out the Wiki history on Cody, NE - it was written by a local and is one of the reasons I fell in love with the place!
