Serena123,
A paraphrase from another topic might apply here, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

I grew up just across the border in Colorado and the McCook area has always been one of my favorite communities in the USA. However I may have different criteria than you.
I am a 62 year old Male.
No kids.
White.
I love to hunt and fish and McCook is right in the middle of some of the best of both in the USA.
I like rodeo and it is common in the area..
High School sports are about the only sports opportunities for spectators.
Great people but very few minority groups. So if you are not WHITE you may feel lonely.
I am not saying the area is racist. Just that diversity is not present.
Church is important to most in the community. Again about 95% Christian and a few unrepentant sinners.
If you require organized events for entertainment McCook is not for you.
Clean air.
Decent medical.
Decent shopping but not what a big city offers.
Low crime.
Great place to raise a family IMHO.

GL2

Gunluvver did a good job describing it.

As far as climate, if Nebraska has a "banana belt" McCook would be in it. The southwest part of the state seems to be warmest part of Nebraska. There is still snow and cold in the winter and warm in the summer. The southwest part of Nebraska just tends to be a little warmer than the rest of the state.

I live in Red Willow County but I'm an oldie retiree so I don't need much in the way of excitement and I can keep myself entertained. Gunluvr pretty well summed it up. McCook has a little less than 9000 people in it so it's pretty quiet. Even at that it's the largest town in the area. North Platte about 60 miles to the north is the next largest town. Nice golf course and other towns in the area also have golf courses. Probably best if you visited the area to get a feel for it.

McCook is where I head for "big city" stuff. Ie, shopping, food, movies, etc. But then, I live in a county with less than 2,000 people. I'm easy to impress...

Yes, this part of Nebraska is warmer than anything north of the Interstate. Makes for pleasant winters. And blisteringly hot summers.
