Default McCook cost of living...

Hello everyone, I have read all other posts and I am looking for some current resident answers please. I am from a small town in NE, 8,000 people and I have also lived in LA and major cities on the east coast and Texas. I am almost 40 now and I can say that I have learned what I want in life and that is to get back to small town Nebraska life. I have only lived in eastern NE but I have visited and hunted all areas and really like the McCook area. I am in the process of learning new skills and considering the local community college, but as an older single person I would like a more independent lifestyle and would like to have an apartment downtown. Are there apartments downtown? Is there a place to find roomates better than craigslist? I am drug free but drink beer once in awhile...if anyone can give me info on how to find roomates and what the job scene looks like for someone who has a construction/farm background, I would be very greatful for your help. Thanks everyone!

Good luck! We've lived in the McCook area for over 30 years and have seen it's good days and bad as with all other towns. Unfortunately, there is not a scene for the single adult. There are 2 bars in town of which one is a "meat market" for college kids and the other is where all the old drunks get together to kill their sorrows. As far as jobs....there are some around but with the economic downturn you should know someone to get a job in the construction or agricultural industries. They are pretty tight nit. Apartments and homes to rent are bountiful and somewhat reasonable for cost. Not that living here is a bad thing, but I would think someone new to the area would find it boring, uneventful and probably not fulfilling in the single scene along with careers. Just trying to be honest.
