Matt I was born in Nebraska (Norfolk) and moved away but am now moving back (to Oshkosh). I can say that you haven't lived in the eastern state or you wouldn't be complaining about any of Nebraska because it is nothing compared to Indiana were am moving from. I can say that also all you statistics are reported from the law enforcement office of whichever city you are looking at. What one city thinks is a major crime maynot be in another.
I look at all these figures from a retired law enforcment officers standpoint.

Fargo
Shamus, please revise your reply that EVERYONE IN FARGO thinks they are the center of the universe. You see my niece and nephew live in Fargo and they are the very sweet and caring and do not think the universe centers around them. Thank you.

The same applies to ND. Everyone in Fargo thinks they are the center of the universe and the people in the western part of the state resent that.

Matt,
You should read the book "What's The Matter With Kansas" by Thomas Frank. It is an interesting book that discusses some of the major issues affecting rural areas of the Great Plains.

There is a huge difference between "statistically significant" and "statistically meaningless". Mattden's are the latter.

I hope Mattden continues to post such awful things about Western Nebraska. The fewer people who move here to change and corrupt things to suit their own ideal, the better. The more people who give us a pass the better. Living out here is wonderful - no one leaves their doors locked, most leave their keys in their ignitions in case someone needs to move or borrow their truck, elementary-age kids play volleyball and basketball in the park on weekends until 1 AM, there is no vandalism and no graffiti. Oh, yeah, we live in terror from crime here. And the really awful thing is that all the kids can shoot from the age of 10. Buncha potential gang members and domestic terrorists here, whatcha say?
Oh, we did have a car stolen here last year... some passer-thru found one of those cars with the keys in it and drove it to Wyoming where it ran out of gas and he ditched it. Our problem with crime here is usually those who don't live here - or those who only live here briefly and then move on to commit more crimes elsewhere. The "crime of the century" in Valentine was the "Butt Bandit" - a guy who would go around downtown after midnight and leave butt prints on the glass storefronts of businesses. They caught him and his 'lookout' and they were prosecuted. Too bad he didn't do it in deep winter - he would have been easy to spot, stuck to the glass. There's a local "two-man crime wave" for yuh.
Keep yipping, Mattden. The fewer people we have out here like you, the better.

Lest this turn into yet another Omaha versus all the rest of Nebraska thread, it's probably necessary to interject a little practical common sense.
If you love living in rural Nebraska, great! Enjoy it, and shut up about Omaha - because you probably don't know what you're talking about.

Love where you live, or move.
