Wow, Omaha (and Lincoln to a lesser extent) are the only things keeping this state from being a completely rural wasteland- why would we want to get rid of them?! I don't mean that in a demeaning way, but the simple fact is outside of those two cities this state is really lacking amenities.

"rural wasteland?" lol
Are you serious??

We would be similar to the Dakotas. Neither is what one would term a "wasteland."
Poorer, to be sure, but "wasteland?"

Good grief.

Hey - I just noticed your location.

Are you anywhere near Beaver City, or Arapahoe or McCook?

I'm west of there. I could also put eastern Colorado in my location.
I live down in the corner.

(It seems I've always lived in the tri-state area.
Which three varies, though, depending upon stage in life. lol)

I don't think Omaha should break away from the state of Nebraska, but to say that the rest of Nebraska would not miss Omaha is foolish. Here are some of the things that benefit Nebraska that would be missed if Omaha was kicked out:

-Property and sales tax revenue
-The 4 Fortune 500 companies and several Fortune 1000 companies that are located in Omaha and pay taxes in Nebraska
-The University of Nebraska at Omaha
-The University of Nebraska Medical Center
-Creighton University and its Medical School
-Eppley Airfield
-Venues like the Qwest Center and the new ballpark as well as the events that use these facilities (the CWS, swim trials, ect.)
-The Henry Doorly Zoo (which is the #1 tourist attraction in Nebraska)

The list goes on.

These two, sure.
But schools? We still have state colleges (my personal preference)
medical care? My nearest major med center is Denver. (Two hundred miles as opposed to four!)
The same can be said for airport, zoo, ball games...

Better yet, lets just split Nebraska right down the middle into East Nebraska and West Nebraska and let the western screwballs fend for themselves. Isn't that what they do anyway? LOL Then we in the new East Nebraska could finally repeal all this hate legislation!!!
