Beatrice
I am a New Yorker who lived for a short while in Beatrice in 1970 when I was not yet 20. My boyfriend (now husband) attended John J Pershing College. I have very fond memories of the nice people I met. I worked at a local hospital as a nurses asst. which turned out to be a good idea since now I am a nurse. Just wanted to send best regards to the nice folks in Beatrice....

And you probably also know that it's Bee-AH-truss, and not BEE-uh-truss like other out-of-staters,

Well, my experience with Beatrice has been different. I'm new to the area, but you know, when you get burned too many times in a short period of time, it effects your perception. For instance, I was just out mowing, and a guy let his dog ***** on my neighbor's driveway and sidewalk right in front of me. I asked him if he needed a bag and said that his dog didn't do anything. He even asked if it was my yard, and then walked off like he didn't care. Come on man! Then last night, my wife and were riding our bikes, and to get onto the bike trail we had to drive on the main road (6th St/Rt. 77) briefly. So, a guy in his truck drove by and shouted out his window "Ride on a sidewalk!" He obviously doesn't know the law, but it soured what should have been a nice time. Then, my wife was trying to cross a road to catch up to me, and there would have been plenty of time, but a driver sped up so that she couldn't cross. There are a number of other direct, personal slams I've experienced, but I won't bore you. I just don't understand, because some of the people here are nice. Maybe it's the rising unemployment. Well, then maybe the city and the people should support new small businesses and entrepreneurs. God knows this town needs some new blood! If I could sum up the slogan of many of the people I've come in contact with, it would be "FU!" if you know what I mean. Much of the culture here is Bud Light and nascar. I'll try to curb my disdain. I guess it's probably not that different from other places.

Well, Beatrice has been taking a lot of hits lately, but that still doesn't explain such behaviors.

I've been looking at a possible job in Beatrice.. never even been to Ne. before. Originally from Mi and am currently in ...yikes...Calif....just myself, no kids or wife...well, the kids are grown. I'm 58 and looking for a new life, hopefully in a nice Midwest town!

Your comments sound a little snobbish.
Anytime your living in a city of that size or smaller,
it is ALL about fitting in.
Some small towns still run people out of town.
I have seen it happen in the last several years.
