1.) Chadron--Lived there for a year, it's definitely a unique town. Plus my favorite author lives there.
2.) Gering--Simply based on my morning view of the monument and distant buttes creeping up from Wyoming when the sun was dying over the western horizon.
3.) Kimball--A town which should have a "nicest folks on earth" title)
Yeah i'm partial to western Nebraska, so what?

isnt it funny that there are barely any posts on the best town in NE, but when it came to the wrost town forum EVERYONE wanted to give their two cents. It's really kinda sad, because as someone who as lived in NE their whole life I can find tons things and towns I love.
Towns I love include:
David City- this is infact my hometown so I am biased, but hey dont plenty of people hate their hometown? I love David City becuase as small as it is it's very clean. And unlike some small towns I feel the people here are very accepting and affable. There are lovely parks and a golf crouse along with a tidy downtown area. And the Butler County fair is quite the expereince I just love this town.
Nebraska City- Like David City it to is a very clean and lovely town. It has that small place feeling without the isolated feeling. So beautiful.
Halsey- No if you want scenery then Halsey is it! Again, the people are great there.
Kearney- I attended UNK and have recently graduated from there so I am a little burned out from Keanrey, but I still recognize it as a growing and vital community. This place is bigger but has the small town thing going for it as well. Alos, it's a very clean city. There's plenty to do in K-town.

What is wrong with Lincoln? I really enjoy it here. Have lived in AZ, CO, ID, CA, and UT. Lincoln is nice, quiet, safe, has everything you need here.

To be fair, a lot of that thread is people defending towns that were named.
But truly, I have a much easier time naming a town I don't like, that all of the dozens that I do.
(PS: I really don't like the town D.C. is becoming. My mom grew up there. My grandma lived there until her death just a couple of years ago. Watching that town over the years, it's growing downright seedy. Not at all the **** and span little town it was when I was a kid.)

Fred,
I have to laugh at the PC police censoring your comment that included one of the most popular cleaning products from my childhood. This politically correct movement is really creating a communications problem.

Located in north central part of the state on Hwys 22 & 183 and pretty much surrounded by the sandhills, its a jewel in my eyes. If memory serves me right, population is around 700 still.
As you come into town from the east on Hwy 20 you need to keep your eyes open for the turkey crossing and most mornings you will see some wild turkeys in the yards on that side of town. If you look to the south you will see the fine school and sports complex also.
Downtown you will find a very nice grocery store, a couple places to have a cool one, and coffee. Nice little convient store on the highway also.
And some real friendly people also who will make you feel welcome.

Those are nice words you wrote about my hometown! There is the darkside of Bassett but it's very very small. Don't forget the Range Cafe and Hotel which are now Historical Places. The Range is like having community breakfast together almost every morning. Tried to get the wife to move there but alas, she's become a city gal now.

I like Broken Bow. If the coal trains didn't roll through all night, it would be near perfect.

I used to eat in the Range Cafe almost every Sunday after our weekly ride around to look at the scenery. It is still open? My sister lives in Bassett and I grew up about 12 miles west of there. A darkside eh? Well, I guess that pretty much every place has one of those.
