Default What is the BEST TOWN in Nebraska

Quite a few in my book, I will start with one of my favorites for sure.

Basset

Located in north central part of the state on Hwys 22 & 183 and pretty much surrounded by the sandhills, its a jewel in my eyes. If memory serves me right, population is around 700 still.

As you come into town from the east on Hwy 20 you need to keep your eyes open for the turkey crossing and most mornings you will see some wild turkeys in the yards on that side of town. If you look to the south you will see the fine school and sports complex also.

Downtown you will find a very nice grocery store, a couple places to have a cool one, and coffee. Nice little convient store on the highway also.

And some real friendly people also who will make you feel welcome.

I would have to say Gretna, I have lived here for two years and love it. Small town yet close to large metro convenience and only a 7 minute commute to work.

I live in Papillion (Money Magazine #3 for those something like 10,000-50,000), but I will give a second to BASSETT!

I love living in Papillion, but I grew up there so I think I'm partial!

Best town in Nebraska UNDER 10,000 people: Nebraska City. It ain't even a contest, folks. (At least in my opinion--and you know what they say about opinions.)

Best town in Nebraska between 10,000 and 50,000 people: Kearney

Above 50,000? Both Lincoln and Omaha have their good points and their drawbacks. No city is perfect.

Agreed on both counts!

Hmm...about 10 years ago I would have agreed here too but Omaha keeps on getting better and better while Lincoln keeps on getting worse and worse, IMO. I'd vote squarely in Omaha's favor, easily.

That's too bad. I drove through Basset, but it was at night. When I last visited NE, I stopped in Ainsworth to eat. When I got back on the road, it was dark. So the rest of the way to Omaha was dark. All I remember was a big shamrock in O'Neill and Norfolk seemed to have plenty of shopping. I don't remember much, I drove for 19 hours straight to Omaha. Only stopping for gas and to eat in Ainsworth. Next time, I'll take the time to really visit these communities.

Just curious, how is Lincoln getting worse? No offense to the city. I like Lincoln a lot.
