I have been in and through Hartington and Coleridge on a number of occasions. Coleridge is a smaller town around 400-500 people and is a close-knit community and is a good place if you like peace and quite and can acclimate easily to a small town setting. There is a cafe and a small grocery store, bank, and a place to get gas (limited hours).
Hartington is the county seat and is a town of 1,600 or so and has more eating options and a grocery store and more services such as a hardware store and a few shops. The city has a Pizza Hut and Subway in addition to other local eateries. Those who do further shopping head to Yankton, Norfolk, or Sioux City to shop at places such as Wal-Mart, etc. Hartington is a nice town overall. The city has a county fair every year during the summer.
With both places, Lewis and Clark Lake (a Missouri River reservoir) and the Missouri River are not too far away if you are into boating, fishing, hiking, etc.
Both towns are fairly conservative, which may be good or bad depending on ones perspectives and views on life.
