Having trouble with welcome wagon. First Century 21 can't see us till Thursday afternoon even though they knew we were coming for 2 weeks. So drove around saw a few friends.

Could not put job apps in cause don't know about housing. Trailers we looked at online look like CACA in person and they want THIS MUCH for it. I would not live there for free.

We have to wait one year for FHA financing but we will look into conventional also.

We did find an old abandoned house south of town that has been vacant for over 75 years and has fallen in BUT....... the walls are poured concrete and are in good shape, no cracks ect.

So we are going to find out who owns it and se if we can buy acre with house and tear all wood out and rebuild. We hope for around 60,000.00.

Has great views of rolling pasture and would need 4x4 to get to town. Only problem is electicity is 2 miles away. Would go green as much as possible and use huge geneator if needed.

Sound possible or not? Pleae give opinions and advise?

Thanks!!

Big Mann,
Is your $60,000 estimate the total after you buy the property or just to purchase the property as is?

Unless you are getting 80 acres or more $60K for an old abandoned house in the McCook area is way to much money. I sure would hate to see you drive up the prices in the area because I might be buying around there next spring.
Good luck in your search

No, we would only pay about 2000.00 for 1 acre. But we found out that you need a minimum of 5 acres in Red Willow county and if an abandoned property with water from well used by cattle you have to drill another well for self.

Electric service is free for 1st 1/4 mile then several thousand after that and is 2 miles to house. We would use existing walls only which is about 600 sq. ft. and 150 sq. ft. upstairs. We would just add everything else but nothing fancy.

And use mostly friends help and pro's to do wiring, plumbing, etc. We probably won't do this one but well look at others that would make more sense. We did find a nice, clean older mobile home with updated up to code wiring that we are buying for less than 6500.00 and for cash so we can save up for house later. We have 30k saved now, so living as cheap as possible so as dream may become reality some day.
