Coming to McCook
We will be arriving in McCook late Monday afternoon after a 1075 mile trip from Kentucky. Looking for a place to live and wife to work.
Don't everybody get to excited and block traffic on Norris Ave because of alittle excitement for this small community. LOL

I love dangling participles/ambiguous modifiers. Are you looking for a wife that will work or are you looking to find work for your wife?
Good luck on your trip.

Weather is to be sunny, breezy, and mid 70's Monday afternoon in McCook. Hope you love it around here as much as we do. We're 25 miles east near Cambridge.

Okay, where is everybody? We got here in Cookie town Monday afternoon tired as heck after driving straigt thru 1050 miles.
Having trouble with welcome wagon. First Century 21 can't see us till Thursday afternoon even though they knew we were coming for 2 weeks. So drove around saw a few friends.
Could not put job apps in cause don't know about housing. Trailers we looked at online look like CACA in person and they want THIS MUCH for it. I would not live there for free.
We have to wait one year for FHA financing but we will look into conventional also.
We did find an old abandoned house south of town that has been vacant for over 75 years and has fallen in BUT....... the walls are poured concrete and are in good shape, no cracks ect.
So we are going to find out who owns it and se if we can buy acre with house and tear all wood out and rebuild. We hope for around 60,000.00.
Has great views of rolling pasture and would need 4x4 to get to town. Only problem is electicity is 2 miles away. Would go green as much as possible and use huge geneator if needed.
Sound possible or not? Pleae give opinions and advise?
Thanks!!

Sent you a PM, but just want to add that Century 21 isn't the only real estate outfit in town. I'd look elsewhere if they are putting you off... I don't believe property is moving that fast that they can't see you sooner!
Here is a link to a real estate coop that includes Century 21... McCook Real Estate Cooperative - McCook, Nebraska

Welcome to McCook!! And good luck with finding suitable housing. Also a suitable job for your wife. Sorry I can't help you with advice about the property you found. Some people do live without electricity but I don't know anyone around here who does. There are sites (forums, etc.) devoted to homesteading so you might get some inspiration and advice from them.
Personally, I am located about 20 miles from McCook and live in an old farmhouse that I rent. However, it DOES have electricity and an indoor bathroom. :-) I do a lot of gardening and am immersed in "harvest" right now and preserving it for later use.

You really sound like you have a plan.
Even tho it is not "traditional" GO FOR IT.
If you have a cell phone, watch the bars as you check out your location to live.
A vehicle, cell phone (for emergencies) and a dream is all you need.
