Being a manager and a person looking to open my own business here in the Midwest I can tell you what drew me here. The tax laws for a company to expand or open here in Nebraska for example are very pro business. You only need to study these laws to see why so many business chose to move or open there companies here. Simply put the state makes it proffiable for a company to do business here which is the primary reason why unemployment is so low. I would not want to open a new business in a state which did not give my some tax incentives to do so. The bottom line when you are looking to start a business or expand one you look for the area which gives you the greatest chance for success and right now that area is the Midwest. If other states would study the business tax laws here in Nebraska and apply them to their own states and they will see a big decline in unemployment and a rise in state revenue.

It also depends on attracting a certain workforce and retaining that workforce in particular cities. Even though Nebraska has a "low" unemployment rate it still has a sizable out-migration outside of the core areas of Omaha and Lincoln. Lincoln seems a bit surprising to me (with regard to a low unemployment rate) due to population growth being much higher than job growth over the past decade. Nebraska (eastern) is at the very western margin of the Midwest, and the core of the Midwest has seen negative job growth since 2000.
no offense to anyone who has never been to Detroit, Milwaukee, and other areas... there is a co-relation. Many people who used to have the same attitude and actually went to live and work in these cities changed their minds. Not all blacks are bad, but there is certainly a corelation... their culture seems to accept violence as an answer more readily then the culture most whites typically associate with.. and it's not actually racial, it's cultural.. you get whites who act like 'wiggers' and they have the same aggressive demeanor and are more prone to commit crimes.
How many whites when they lose their jobs let their neighborhoods turn into slums, start drug dealing, and commit crimes? A relatively smaller number as a percentage of their respective population.
That is not to say one should act a certain way towards all people. Take each person at face value. However one would be foolish to ignore trends and statistics because they don't want to offend anyone. Ignoring problems also means no solutions will be forthcoming. There are in fact a lot of blacks who feel trapped in the areas they live and would like to get out and start over fresh but feel powerless to do so as well.
Well since i started this post 3 years ago alot has changed. I am currently graduating from college with Bachelors in Science- Accounting. I will be eligible to take the CPA exam this year. All that being said, how is the job market out there now for a CPA eligible accountant

I agree wholeheartedly.
What so (too) many folks proclaim as "race" related are, in my opinion, spewing implanted knee-jerk rhetoric emotionally based and unadulterated by much, if any, education or past knowledge seeking.
So MUCH of what is labeled "racism" etc. is actually CULTURE!!!
I am currently immersed in an area with 98 per cent Caucasians present.
With TOO MANY of them ignorant low-brow LOUD uneducated riff-raff with little to NO regards for other folks. I despise the majority of the human herd hereabouts and truly wish I had the wealth to move elsewhere.
I do NOT despise the humans around me because they are white. It is their BEHAVIOR and the sub-culture they possess and display.
A self-centered to heck-with-all-but-me and I can do anything I want and laws and statutes and ordinances are for others.
The culture I am immersed in originated in Appalachia and followed the early settlers of this area. A Scots-Irish sub-culture. Read the Web for info if curious.
A quick-to-violence culture that looks askance at folks pursuing an education.
Would you stay here if you couldn't find a job? The Midwest 'exports' its unemployment.
DING DING DING DING
Totally agree.
Why would anyone live here if they had no job?
California has a high unemployment because a lot of people don't want to work here. They make money other ways. Illegal ways.
It has nothing to do with skin color. The color of your skin doesn't make you choose to not work and turn to a life of crime. It's the individual. Any other reason is just an excuse. There's too much access to different views and cultures to all children, so they know at an early age what others do.
If a person doesn't want to work, they won't. The only time in my life I lost my current job without quitting myself I still had a 2nd job which turned into my full time job. The problem is a lot of people would rather do nothing than work a low paying job. For me, I was fortunate that my jobs have always kept me where I needed to be to fit my budget. I went to high school with plenty of people who are probably unemployed right now, believe me, they have been setting things into motion for that for years.
Region doesn't teach you your work ethic, neither does your skin color, it all comes from within. Plenty of people reject what they are taught by their parents and others. My parents taught me early to work hard, but I am the one that worked my butt off to get myself where I am. I'm very proud of it, but it has nothing to do with where I was raised.
I went from Omaha to the OC, same department, same type of job, the people in my current office are all hard working. My previous office was good too, but the difference is night and day between them in how hard everyone works. All of them are nice people, but which office works harder is not even close. I love my job, I work with very hard working people.
Once the person makes the conscious decision to live the way they do, it's all on them.
But I respect all the above opinions. This is just how I feel.
