And don't forget the daily tornadoes and sunset showdowns between the sheriffs and bank robbers.

Hey guys and gals?? Whats the deal with spiders in Nebraska??? Just thought of this, I often have to check my bathroom for them because they could be in there at any time, I just never thought about them being in Nebraska possibly.

GOSH, you're right, forgot to include those! And the posses and shootouts, Go Ne!
Well, we have spiders in our house; mostly in the basement. Little ones, though, not any trouble; an occasional Daddy Longlegs outside. Not a lot of them inside - we vacuum regularly and keep the place clean. My son told me (he lives in Vegas) that some Foole brought back some desert spiders from the Desert Storm conflagration and turned them loose in the desert around Vegas; THOSE things are about 2 feet across and would scare the devil out of me. Hope they don't head this way.
I used to live in the deep South (see moniker) and we only had 6 weeks of a very mild winter every year. Bugs THERE are really prolific; giant cockroaches as big as the palm of your hand; banana spiders that make impenetrable webs from tree to tree, gnats and mosquitoes almost year-round. Here the bug population by comparison is fairly unnoticeable.
"My" kids at the HS have iPods and cel phones and are all on Facebook at home - when we call school off for a blizzard, they get on FB and spread the word quicker than we adults can with a calling tree! They are not disconnected from the rest of the world - they just got a $75,000 grant to open a grocery store (the closest one is 40 miles away) and are writing business plans and budgets, just like the FFA and their business teacher taught them. They can balance a checkbook and take out a loan, and do all of the fiscal and financial things that many adults can't do. We also have an active Drama Club, and almost all of the kids are in basketball and football and volleyball. So these kids are well-grounded and very centered - and well-educated. All but one of last year's graduating class went to college - most on scholarships. It's a Beaver Cleaver/Mayberry world out here - we don't need an influx of folks who want to "show us a better way" to come in and screw it up. I moved here because it was this way and I sure as h-e-double-hockey-sticks do NOT want to screw it up. I used to be HEAVILY involved in development back east, working with multibillion-dollar developers, and I refuse to do it here.

NO, and yes. It's not a real bummer to me anymore. Some of it is pretty true, there are some real rednecks around here, but there are city people too. Mostly what you see is cows not buffalo sorry buffalo bill. actually, he's the one who killed them all. No, it's not wizard of ozz, but there are tornado's here. Theres interstate, and cows, little towns, and cornfields. thats about it, to some people. theres a whole lot more when youre not just skimming the surface.

I've traveled quite a bit and have lived outside of NE for the past 8 years. I've only gotten one silly comment about Nebraska, but it was hard to be offended because it was so ridiculous. Normally people say something like "Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska album was awesome!" or "What's it like there?" or "Nebraska, huh."

the one I always get is, "Oh, I had a friend from Nebraska! His name was Mike Smith. Do you know him?"
Uh, hon.... I don't personally know all 1.5 million people in the state...

Correct there is a whole lot more. The sandhills & pineridge area of our state is some of the most beautiful scenery. A good percentage of our residents go their whole life never taking the time to come take a look at the whole state. Instead they travel the I80 corridor across the state to points beyond. Little do they know what they have missed.
