For those of you in Nebraska
Does it bother you when people outside of the Great Plains region think Nebraska is full of Buffalo, Tornadoes, and Rednecks and don't realize what is actually in the state and the beauty it has to offer?
*I did post a tornado thread but it was for personal knowledge*

I actually kind of like it. Shame on me, I know, but I think that this area is so beautiful because it is "undiscovered" and undeveloped and ignored.
Like most people, when I came out west looking for a place to buy, I didn't really consider Nebraska; it was merely on my list to check out. I was leaning more toward ND and SD. But I came here first and never even went to check out those other properties. This was it.
When you come from a place that is overrrun with folks who are lazy, emotional, irrational, and self-destructive; where the "acceptable" water that comes to you downstream from the nuclear power plant is so tainted with tritium that they advise you to eat no more than 3 fish a month from the river "but it's ok to drink"; when life is all about what other people think of how you dress and how much money you can display in your home, your vehicle, and your outfits, Nebraska is like a breath of fresh air in a polluted city.
I hope it never gets "discovered". Yeah, Nebraska is nothin' but a bunch of dangerous gun-totin rednecks and ranchers, we have buffalo everywhere, more cows and horses than people, the work is hard and sunup to sundown, the pay is low, we are 150 miles from the nearest interstate or Wal-Mart, there's 'nothing to do' and 'nothing to see' here. Don't come.

SCGranny nailed it.
I can live with Tornadoes.
Buffalo taste great. If you can fine one LOL.
I grew up in the tricorner area of CO,KS and NE. I moved to the Lincoln area to attend college in 1964 and have settled in the area because of business interests. When I first came to the Lincoln area I liked it. However in the past twenty years it has been inundated by aging hippies and their idiotic ideas. I am a gun toting RedNeck and proud of it.

Shhhhhh, Gunluvver!
There's buffalo EVERYwhere (especially on the ranches), and huge dens of poisonous rattlers, and wild and vicious antelope (have you seen those HORNS?) and even the HUGE wild turkey flocks will attack people and cars without warning! Coyotes run rampant! Gophers build huge dens and lie in wait to trip unsuspecting horses and break their legs - so they can get at you! There's even large herds of killer bunnies! Hawks and eagles plummet to the ground regularly to kill their prey! Even the flocks of Canadian geese will run you off of the lakes and out of the cornfields! You'd BETTER carry a gun, or the varmints will get you! This is a ruff and tuff place! City folk need not apply! Run! Flee! Save yourselves!
Hee hee.
I love it.
Type in "Valentine, NE" and "Cody, NE" in your search engine. What really sold me on this place was the history - rambunctious and effervescent, unashamed brashness and upfront honesty. And the people are pretty much like that today; except now that they've taken up the train tracks there isn't a carload of sugar being unloaded here once a week to help ferment the corn. AHEM. There are more cows than people in this area and county; there are very few towns, and they are tiny villages without a lot of amenities. The folks around here put on their own entertainment (I was honored to write a skit for Homecoming week this past week) and make their own fun. The work here is HARD; the local HS kids get up at 4 AM to help with the cattle before they come to school, and "branding" is an excused absence. Afterwards they go home and do chores. One of the best trap shooters in the county is a 12 year old redheaded girl. Most girls in the eighth grade have their own horses and can rope and ride and medicate a cow or calf as quickly as any adult. If that's the definition of "Redneck" then bring it, because these kids are fine examples of what hard work, self-pride and responsibility can do.

Hmmmm, I was expecting alot more people to not like Nebraska being viewed as that, but hey you guys or gals are all right, I mean I've personally only made it as far east as Albuquerque but hearing what y'all have to say it just re-enforces my belief that California sucks. Personally I know that in the Midwest/Plains work is hard and the land in undeveloped so it bugs me when I hear stupid California kids whining and complaining that they have the get up at 7:30 for school, or whine when their Blackberry cell phone won't send a text message. It bothers me when a nice piece of undeveloped land ends up either having Apartments or a Wal-Mart built on top of it, can't I at least have some nice land with flowers on it to look at on the way to school???[When I did go, I've graduated] Coming from a Californian who knows nothing about living in the Midwest, Y'all are the best Americans and the best and hardest working people in the world.
