But I gotta wonder why your fiance is "stuck in Palmer".
If the reason (which you don't want to say) has any drama involved ,
well any kind of drama mixed with a very small town has
SCARY written all over it.
May GI would be a better start.
Thanks for the advise. I'll start looking into G.I as well. In fact that may be a better move. But what do you mean by SCARY?

Default Six Days on the Road.

Being of "ruddy" complexion etc. if I have never heard of a place, then I wouldn't want to live there. What seems to be the attraction of this particular hamlet?

Well my fiance and son are there. I have a choice of an indefinite wait or trying to join them. Before I make any quick decisions I'd like to research all of my possible options and their out comes first. So before I just jump and decide to move to Palmer, Grand Island or anywhere else in NE from NYC I want to get a good feel of how the environment is first since my actions will not just affect me but my child and spouse as well. That and because I know it would be a major change in the way I live.

I'm intrigued by your choice of the words "stuck in Palmer" regarding your girlfriend. Honestly my friend, I just don't have a very good feeling about this whole thing.

This is a very sensitive situation and I'd rather not give any details. However; I will say that as of right now I am only considering moving there. As I mentioned before I want to gather as much info as I can first before go and making any definite decisions.

That's fine. I understand that. But I do want you to be careful, and seriously consider everything.

The rural Midwest - especially extremely small towns - is totally different than New York City. Or any big city for that matter. Honestly, you could face some serious scorn due to the fact that you have a child with the "small town girl" that you're not married to.

Basically, I'm just concerned about how different it will be, than you can possibly imagine.

Thank you for the input I'll take what you have told me into consideration.

By scary I mean

Its a small town, not much to do except talk.
(yes there is other stuff to do but making a point)
So if you are involved in local drama you will make and
excellent subject when people are deciding what to talk about.

I forgot about the part of you being AF.
Even if you don't run into racists you will still "stand out",
see above about being a good subject for chatty kathies. LOL

Smile palmer NE

I lived in palmer for 20 years.there are friendly folks and not so friendly .Most all that live in palmer NE are related one to another.Palmer is mostly a farming comunity. I heard in the resent past that palmer was interested in outoftowners moveing there. As far as black/hispanick&other races that live there, they live there because someones son or daughter either married or is dateing them. If you are friendly, honest and can contribute economicly to the village of Palmer NE,I believe you would enjoy liveing there!
