Lincoln apartments - opinions needed
- Are there any good apts in Lincoln that have a washer & dryer in the unit?
- What is the area south of Old Cheney Road like?
- What areas are best for those of us seeking a quiet neighborhood with walking paths or scenic views?
Any and all opinions are welcomed and needed. Thanks!

It all depends on how much rent you are willing to payDAN.
I saw a great two bedroom with a garage and a great location just yesterday but it was $700.00. Out of my price range. It is close to Old Cheney and Salt Valley View. I wrote the phone number of the rental agent down somewhere if you are interested. Leave a note for me and I will try ti find it for you.

GL2,
Thanks. I lived in Lincoln years ago, but it's grown so much I hardly recognize it any more. I noticed growth south of Old Cheney - that used to be farmland. I'm really trying to avoid the college crowd. I'm assuming the area south of Old Cheney or north of Superior St, or even the western edge of town is for the more mature crowd.

Yes Dan,
The area South of Old Cheney has a lot of home ownership and a few multi unit apartments mixed in. Nice and clean neighborhood with very few bad apples. Yes just ten years ago Old Cheney on South was mostly corn fields. Now you have to head South three miles or so to find very much corn. There is one corn field on Pine Lake Road between 14th Street and about 20th that had around 40 acres of corn planted last year. However it may have been Sweet Corn and at $2.00 for a dozen ears the farmer figured he could keep it while the value of it increases drastically year after year.

Like Gun said, yes there are quite a few but it depends on how much you're willing to pay. Have you checked out The Lincoln Journal Star Online
I live one block north of 14th and Old Cheney. It's a really nice area with ALOT of families. I'm not really digging it too much because it's more high class than I like (I like North Lincoln better), but it's extremely safe and there's alot to do down here. The areas down here tend to be richer and it makes *me* uncomfortable.
Down south there's Pioneer's Park and Wilderness Park, which both have beautiful scenery. There's a few walking/bike paths down here, but I don't know them well as I've never taken them.
I would have to say that south Lincoln has north Lincoln beat scenically. There's alot more trees down this way. Atleast it seems that way. North of Superior seems to be more flat and boring, though I like the area.

Aera,
You are just a short distance to one of the best bike trails in Lincoln. If I remember correctly about two blocks East of the Culver's at 14th and Old Cheney you can get on the bike trail. I am not sure how far South it goes but I think it is surfaced for several miles. Going North from Old Cheny it will take you across Hwy 2 at 27th street. You can hook up and go either East of West also. If you keep going North it will take you right to downtown or the University. You can probably download a map of the Lincoln Bike trails off of the Internet. I know most of the decent bicycle maps have up to date maps you can get for free or very cheaply. I have not been able to ride a bike for five years now but when I was riding daily I could go anywhere in Lincoln almost as quickly as I could drive. I wish I had never quit riding but after having to push my bike several blocks on a 95 degree day I gave it up. Probably a big mistake.

Aera,
Here is a link to some of the Lincoln Bike trails
Bicycles of Lincoln - Bikes along the Trail
They should be fairly current.

I've lived in apartments in both northwest Lincoln (the Highlands) and more recently, south Lincoln (S. 40th and Pine Lake). Granted, my most recent experience is 4 years ago, but at that time, I really preferred living in south Lincoln. Today, with the added amenities, restaurants, shopping and the new Super Target at S. 40th and Yankee Hill, I'd probably enjoy living there even more.
The apartment complex I lived in, Ridge Pointe Villas, was located in a great area and to-date the building and the property are among the nicest I've had the privilege of living in. They were new construction at the time, but I'm sure they quality hasn't deteriorated. The commute to downtown was routinely 15-20 minutes in the morning and all-in-all pretty boring (especially compared to Tampa, where I live now!). If I recall correctly, Ridge Pointe had in-unit washer and dryers. Also, there was a sidewalk connection to the local walking trails directly from the complex.
Good luck!
