Agree its a beautiful town, but as far as small and remote - its actually very close to civiliation and fairly large by Nebraska standards...

How can that be considered "remote?"

I should mention Crawford with a population of only 1100 (2000 census - much less now) probably one the the prettest areas of Nebraska. I don't know about remote though. It is only 25 miles from the population center of Harrison (Pop 279) and 22 miles from huge city of Chadron (Pop 5600).

Quite a few years ago, I’d guess 40 or so, the town fathers decided to put up a traffic light at the main intersection in Crawford… Main St. & 2nd St. Most of the local folks were quite vocal in their opposition. Well, the light wasn’t up very long when one of the locals upon leaving a downtown watering hole, ran into one of the poles that the light was cabled to which knocked the light down and destroyed it. At the next council meeting the city fathers decided not to replace the light. No one ever figured out if knocking down the light was really accidental... or not.

My vote would go to Hyannis (pop. slightly less than 300). It's well over 100 miles from Valentine, Scottsbluff and North Platte, the closest sizable towns are straight shots to both Ogallala (70 miles away) and Alliance (60 miles away). I like route 2 to Broken Bow (where I have family), so I've made a near infinite amount of trips out that way.
