ehenningson

I know where you are coming from. And yes it might have sound a little harsh with my first post here. But I'm asking if other people have experience the same kind here . See, the things you don't understand is that I am asian/ pacific. And I referred myself as one because when people look at me That's who they see. so it's not me blah-ing asian/pacific pride out there. I'm saying that there is not as much asians here and so it's kind of tough to fit in with some people here because the people are not use to seeing asians. At least from my experience.

you said--------

(And for those here who are reading this thread, I date a Hispanic person, I know several black people and people who represent many races, they do not know the same story oneperson has experienced.)..

How many people do you know of the many race in omaha? just because your friends haven't said anything about these issue doesn't mean i'm making such nonsense up and just because you know of other race doesn't mean you know how it really is to be in these situation. can a person who have not experience a tragedy really go out there and talk to people about it? No,many people have to really be in that situation to know how it feels.why, I thought this site we can post up anything to talk about? I'm not saying that nebraska is the most racist out of the world. as i stated before i mention out of the seven states i've lived in. How could you not think this is not a safety issue? It is indeed.how you like it if people try to cuss at you because of your race because they think you should go back to where they think you come from.. You You actually think these kind of problems are not serious enough to really talk about? hate and bullying can lead to serious problems. You know what? I know we can't stop these problems but if everybody knows about these problems ( that they do exist) and we educate them about it maybe we can pass these facts to our own children and they'll learn to not judge people. i'm not trying to bug you but it seems like you don't think such problems can happened. Yes to you Nebraska is a lovely state and indeed it is relaxed. Try to see it from someone else's point of view about this problem. I don't think I'm the one who need counsling for this.people who do those kind of harrassment are the ones who need it.It's clear they have some kind of hate issues.

Wink ....

oneperson

I just want to make a few things clear

1. I said that IF what this thread looks like is true THEN counceling is needed
2. I agree, IF you say is true, then you DONT need counceling, the jerks do
3. I am not saying that you ARE, I'm just use to people coming on to these
threads on their first post to trash talk.
4. I do not appreciate racism, and if this has been happening, I back YOU up
5. There are many people in this city that are on YOUR side oneperson
come to us if you need us as obviously we need to take care of the
situation at hand, no matter what race you are, most people here
will stand for you and will look at you like a brother..
6. I apologize if I offended you or made you look like a liar, the reason I have
to post what I post here is the twisting of data and the lies that are
posted here on a daily basis, and I really do not want to have to keep
coming here just to clear information up, I'd rather spend my time here
talking about the good life that Nebraska really is all about...
7. Here's something of interest, there is a much higher population growth
of asian/pacific islanders in the Omaha metro than Whites!! and i'm not
talking just percentage wise, I'm talking TOTAL number wise!!
8. Believe me that the city government embraces this newly founded
diversity here, and so do I!!
9. Omaha is growing faster than the national average, and most of the
growth here are very diverse of all races, sexual orientation, there
actually was an article in a major New York City newspaper that talks
about how Omaha is becoming the next Seattle, but of it's own kind...
10. You are alive and well in a city that is bulging and ready to burst at its
seams and it's already beginning to happen, Omaha's reputation is really
starting to BOOM from viewpoints all over the nation for Business,
education, quality of life, low cost of living, high wages, low mortgages,
World class performances and concerts and local music scenes, NCAA
sports mecca, SCENIC city... it's white population was about 85% by
2010 it will be about 70% and continue to decline, that to me is good
for the reason that culture is coming, and it is starting to show
11. All areas of Omaha love the city, some people think that Omaha is
segregated, however, many people have the option to move out of
their neighborhoods, but they don't want to and I can't blame them...
North Omaha has alot of history for the african-americans, they went
through alot pre-1975, but they held strong, and people here respect that
despite what they went through, their history is full of GREAT things!
12. South Omaha has alot of hispanics, they are coming together and forming
a community connection there, where many hispanic events and lifestyles
are bringing South Omaha alive, and believe me the city is investing
lots of money here...
13. Most people here love the city, Omaha is becoming a very diverse city
and I cannot speak for everyone, however, I do speak for the vast
majority in that we welcome EVERYONE, especially if you
bleed HUSKER RED!!

Default Wow

This post is really loaded with liberal jingoism.
The truth is that all this racial diversity stuff brings increased social ills, and that is easily, statistically provable.
Several of your points have me convinced not to *ever* move to Omaha.

Yikes- is this thread ever gonna end????

I've got friends of all nationalities, and I choose to be friends with them because they go through life with a good attitude; NOT a chip on the shoulder or the "Woe is me, I'm a minority" attitude. They also do not have the self-inflicted tension with people of other races, like oneperson seems to have.

oneperson- My wish for you is that you would stop wasting so much time thinking of yourself as a victim, and live life to its fullest. If Omaha is so racist that you're not happy, don't live there. It really is that simple. Good luck to you.

Default In Continutation of One Person's "Racist" Thread

I just hopped on this site right now and just saw that hot thread. I 'm continuing it because it has been closed, and rightfully so, but I felt I wanted to get in my 2 cents too.

I'm almost exactly like oneperson in being the same category of race and will be in the same general area. So, to read what onerperson has posted is very disheartening. In fact, after I read the post about her experiences, I asked aloud, "no effing way, they're that racist over there!"--which seems to be the reaction that a lot of NE posters are concerned about.

I can say that I've never peronsonally encountered rascism, but my parents sure have when they first came here to America, so I believe that it exists. It's hard--racism sucks balls so when someone on here comes to tell of their experiences, and to have these experiences downplayed or to have that person accused of being a fraud--that's just wrong.

Someone had said that they fitted all the pieces together and said that if oneperson was not a fraud, they would not refer to themselves as "asian/pacific islander. " I think that oneperson referred to herself in that way because it's been ingrained in her head to use that phrase because every form that you ever fill out (forms for school, etc. ) has 7 or 8 race categories, and the last ones are always, "asian/pacific islander" and "other." So that's where that comes from.

As for the employee following her around the store, I believe that too. They do that here to the cholos at the Macy's all the time. It sucks, but hey, they're protecting their merchandise against what they perceive as a threat. Oneperson, if that happens again, don't just stand silently by and let the employee watch you! If that were me, dude, I would talk her ear off. I would ask her so many questions she wouldn't be able to wait to get away from me. I would make sure she earned her $6.75 (or whatever min. wage is over there) an hour.

Having a accent makes things worse--perhaps this is a problem. I see that with the mexicans here in Cali. Oneperson, you said you didn't have an accent, but, and not to insult you, reading your posts, I see a lot of mistakes that aren't made by native speakers. It could be that you're typing fast, but I don't think so. Those grammar mistakes have more to do with word tense. So, if you have an accent, that may be why you're getting less respect. People, esp. people in the service industry, seem determined to not understand you once they've deemed you a "foreigner" (disclaimer: different if you're a rich foreigner). I think this has less to do with racism and more to do with not wanting to listen to words one doesn't understand.

Ultimately, in my view, it is all about how you carry yourself (in other words, be arrogant, not timid). So I am not that concerned . I may be all nice and sweet on the outside, but I don't put up with BS and what you've experienced is complete BS. Start writing letters (e.g. to the store with the employee following you). Girl, get feisty on their asses!

I stop to look at the comforter and she asked if i need anything I said no I was fine.
You would assumed that she would say if i did need any assistance she'll be around or something like that but she just stood next to me, not talking and waiting for me to go.
and that was 15 minutes just standing next to me looking at me and at what I was gonna do.
I mean i don't like a kind of homeless person or anyone who most people would misteaken to steal things.
beside I'm 5'0 ft, tiny person standing next to a 9 ft shelves.
Well, there were other times where me and my friends got kicked out of skateland because a Caucasian 13 boy claimed that one of my friend had a knife.
anyway, the security guard came to all of us and didn't do no search or ask any question.
Just came to my group of friends and kick the whole crew out and assumed all the other asian who we didn't know were to be kicked out too.Which was nonesense.
There were many time where I often here people call other asian around me and myself included CHINKS, SAY" CHING CHONG or talk to me in vietemese or other asian sounding language because they think it's funny.
I shouldn't care what others have to say but I;m sorry, I don't feel safe.
I just never had experience as much racial issue as I do here.
The other day I was watching the news and they said race issue has become worst then years before.
Are you sure you don't need ESL?

I recommend you move to the Left Coast.

First of all, the suggestion that the KKK is not active in the U.S. is just ridiculous. They may not be lynching people anymore, but that doesn't mean they don't get together and push racist propaganda...to suggest they are not active is just ignorant...or worse just dishonest. And who cares whether or not the KKK targeted Catholics and Jews
You responses are nothing but Ad Homonem! It only proves that you are a guilt conscious low function white Liberal! You do not realize your own racial hatefulness in your foolish responses! Like when you said:
