Anyone have info about the alliance area?
My husband was sent by BNSF down to Allliance, Nebraska do to a lack of work in here in Gillette, Wy. We have looked into possibly moving our family there. Can anyone give me some details about life there. Schooling, rental availability, cost of living details, community activities, churches, really anything you can share.
Thanks for you help!
Dee

Have you checked MSN's Realtor.com? Also try Yahoo Real Estate. Both will give you an idea of housing (or Lack of) in Alliance and area.

I have a 2-bedroom home with 1.5 baths, large family room, large kitchen, big front porch for $475/mo. Another possible bedroom in the basement.
Good schools here
My church family is awesome at the Alliance Berean Church -- we'd love to have you!

I lived in Alliance for 6 mos and didnt like it. My husband grew up there and says that it seems to be going down, The population has decreased, I think people just donr want to live there anymore. The cost of living is really cheap though. We had a 3 bed, 1 bath apt for about 475/month!

Alliance is alright if you enjoy doing nothing. There are no real attractions unless you enjoy carhenge, and that is kind of just 'there' if you live in the town. Outside of that there is really nothing to do.
The town fears change, you will find yourself constantly going to other areas to shop because Alliance is unwilling to accept new things into the town.
As for the positives.
The School system is pretty good, they have a large focus on the athletic system, you will like this town if you enjoy high school football. A few crackpot teachers, I have on being my psychology teacher at the moment, we talk about her personal life most of the time and don't really get into topics, but the rest of the teachers are really good up there.
I hear that living costs in Alliance are kind of hellish, but i personally have no information on that. Its a small town community that is friendly like most other communities, although there is not a lot to do in the entertainment aspect as i already mentioned, but part of living in a small community is the ability to go out and make your own adventure :P...
That is all i have right now.

Alliance, NE & Railroads
Hi! I too am a BNSF employee getting ready to relocate to Alliance from KC. In fact, due to the recent layoffs, there will be a lot of us going to Alliance. One of the few terminals left with any real work and low seniority on the boards. The Ft Worth TX guys are displacing us in Kansas, now we are forced to flood the Nebraska / Wyoming boards. It sucks for all of us involved. We aren't happy to be bumped and aren't thrilled about bumping other people who need their job as much as we do. Especially in a small town with very limited employment opportunities.
But... we are interested in any info regarding rental properties / long term hotel accomodations in Alliance. Would love to hear from Railroaders that have gone before us. What was your experience? Any surrounding areas or city/towns that might be better to look at for rentals? Any decent campgrounds or classy trailer parks with a Circle-K within walking distance? lol!
Thanks in advance for any info. Please email me! kansasprairieman@gmail.com

The only town near Alliance is Hemingford with almost 1,000 people, Alliance however has almost 8,000 people, so it will naturally have more stuff.

Railroad wife in Texas here. We to are suffering from BNSF job cuts and deletion of retention boards etc. We are wondering about the Alliance area for a relocation.....
It doesn't look like there is much else in that area from what little I have found on the net. How many from your area are going up to Alliance and what's the senority of your gang?
Thanks,

Alliance could use a boom, its lost quite a few people over the years.
