Can anyone tell me if it is o.k. to have a couple (as in two or three) chickens in the town of McCook? With the Urban Homesteading trend going full speed I can't imagine it wouldn't be. I would like to have a couple chickens (no roosters) for eggs for myself and possibly neighbors. Thanks in advance....

I don't know of a soul in McCook who has chickens in the city limits, so I'm going to guess there's an ordinance against it.

From what I've been able to tell it's legal as long as it's hens only no roosters and they're subject to inspection by the humane society. But that's for Omaha and Lincoln. I'd call the humane society. They would probably know the real answer or at least be able to point you in the right direction of where you could find out.

call the city, they can give you the answer. I was sure our city didn't allow it, but was happily wrong after a call to the city. they were also able to give me answers on chicken coops.

I live in McCook and some friends of mine live in an upscale area and they raise rabbits in their backyard in multible cages. I would think hens would be along the same lines of rabbit farming.
