Hi all, I was just reminiscing about a time I spent in Lincoln in the late spring of 1974. I was there a few days, nice little "town" at that time, and I went to an upscale bar that was called The Library. Does anyone remember it? Does anyone know if it is still in existence? If not, why? And when did it close down? It was a classy place. High back chairs, waitresses in black and white shirt dresses, and genteel music playing. I am sure I looked totally out of place, LOL. I was a "hippie" then. Just passin' through on the way to the East Coast from California.

Excuse me...Do I know you? I very well remember the Library bar. :-) Ah...I also loved the age that I was then, too.

I wish I knew of a classy place that didn't charge $15 for a drink. Anyone know of a place? In Omaha?

You need to move over to wine. There's a cool wine bar in the Old Market. AND, Soaring Wings out by Bellevue--Springfield.

It's an education: Swirl, sniff, taste.

If you remember the Library, perhaps you also frequented Barrymore's, the Zoo Bar, (both still going) and, what was that great Bloody Mary place out by Gateway--not Reuben's, not Ross's(maybe)--the walls had wine bottles built into them, like little windows??

The 70's were good, in Lincoln. The food and libations pre-dated all the franchises. Tony and Luigi's. Closed because it was just easier and cheaper to take a family to McDonald's. And there was The Bistro, downtown. Yum. and cool with the granite counter and always a huge bouquet of gladiolas. First, it became a gravel parking lot and now it's a hugh hotel.

Of course, Cliff's. Remember the bar he tried and hired only blonde waitresses. Would there not be some whopping litigation, today??

The Library was a culmination of what was happening, I think.
Oh well.

I'm a big wine guy too. But I love to sit in a classy place and enjoy my Crown Royal as well. The Magnolia isn't too bad I guess.

Loved Cliff's.....and, the 70's also had my favs, Der Loaf, the WaterHole, Sweep Left, Little Bo's.....

Ahhhh. those were the days!!!! I had my first "legal" drink at Tony and Luigi's!

I must say, though, that Lincoln still has some pretty great places. I encourage anyone who travels through the city to stop in the Hay Market area.....and then downtown....and perhaps a side tour through Havelock. There are lots of cozy spots to enjoy a cocktail!

Yep, the Zoo Bar rocks!

Omaha's Old Market has tons of cool bars......try McCarthy's! I'm partial to Omaha's Irish pubs!
