Default Laughlin?

Hi!

I've gone back several pages and didn't find any thread title about Laughlin.

I was once thinking about Mesquite to retire to, but now am leaning towards Laughlin, after having visited both towns.

I am just looking to find a nice community with low rents (cannot afford to buy a home at this time,) fun activities, good healthcare facilities (just in case,) etc.

I briefly visited Laughlin two weeks ago and I liked it very much (what I saw of it, anyway.) I stopped at the Edgewater Hotel for lunch, then checked out the river briefly, and then drove partially into town for a quick look.

Had an excellent lunch buffet at the Edgewater (FAR better than anything I had had elsewhere during my trip - especially in Mesquite.) I then looked at the river for a little while (many people in boats and on jet skis seemed to be enjoying it,) and then briefly drove into town (I was on my way to Phoenix, so didn't have a lot of time to look around.)

So everything I saw and did in Laughlin I liked - except for the summer heat; but even it wasn’t too bad, as it was very dry (I wouldn’t want to walk a mile in it, however.)

I know Laughlin will be DAMNED hot during the summer months - but I would hope that the rest of the year would be pleasant.

I love the idea of having the nice casinos there. I'm not a big gambler – and I wouldn’t move there if I was; but I love the idea of lots of shows and good restaurants to go to. Laughlin seems like a genuine "mini-Vegas," so I like that aspect of it.

I also love the natural outdoor fun of having golf courses nearby - and the Colorado River running virtually through the middle of town (I see myself buying a good used Jet Ski and buzzing up and down the river at 50mph - as I saw others doing during my visit.)

So it has major pluses for my moving there – and just one big negative (but hopefully one I can live with.) So I'm not 100% sold on Laughlin yet, but am sure considering it.

I would very much appreciate any first hand information anyone can provide on the town itself - and also on any other possible surrounding living areas.

Among other things, I would like to know:

1. The quantity, quality and rental rates of Laughlin apartments and/or condos? I have found a few on the Net which look good and reasonable, but would appreciate links to any additional apartment/rental condo info.

2. The quality and rates of the golf courses in the area? I can't pay $75/game greens fees, so are their courses available at reasonable rates? Also, are there any leagues there for a hacker like myself?

3. Are there any shooting ranges or hunting/fishing clubs in the area? I am a target shooter and also enjoy hunting and fishing - so if there are any clubs or groups of that nature, I'd be very interested in hearing of them.

4. Is there much blowing sand - or especially dust - in the area (I have a damaged eye, so excesive dust bothers it tremendously.) Once in awhile would be expected - but is Laughlin an excessively windy/dusty area?

So I would appreciate that info - and any other info anyone might provide.

Thank you very much, and I will look forward to reading your replies.

Sincerely,

Rich

Thanks for that!

Didn't really consider that - since Laughlin is in Nevada.

Will check on it.

Thanks again.

Default Laughlin? Noooooooooo

I've lived in Laughlin for several years and this is my 6th summer. Never again. It's been long, hot, windy, dry and dusty and enough is enough. I am nagging my husband into moving to Elko. I need some seasons in my life, not to mention rain, a little snow and no more 125 degree days. I am looking forward to relocating in the coming year.

deb,

Thank you for your post.

You mention wind and dust, can you please tell me if that is often - or just once in awhile?

I have a bad eye, and any area inwhich there is often blowing dust is not good for me.

I have previously heard that it is not that bad in Laughlin... so can you please give me your impression as to the frequency?

Thanks so much.

Hiya Lowrider.. Found one thread your talking about the area.. thanks for the info of coming here. Kinda hard to peg down what state forum you need to be in to get info on the two cities there.

I have been offered a job in Laughlin at one of the Casinos there as a Security Officer.. with a better chance of advancement than the casino I worked at. Is it worth the move to the area? I am married have been for 15 years we have 3 kids oldest being 14 and the youngest 9.. I have been a security professional for many years now and hold a few degrees in the field. Whats the good the bad and the ugly of the region?

Muhnay,

Hey! You ever see this movie where a gang robs all these casino's in Vegas? (I mean the original.)

Anyway, what if they had an inside man who was head of security?!!! Think about it and let me know!!!

Glad you found this thread, and hope you found the other two on page 4 of the AZ forum.

I'm gonna be in Laughlin/BHC next week, so will give you a report of what I find out.

From what I've heard from most people - if you have kids, you want them in Laughlin, away from BHC. This is especially true of the schools - Laughlin being much better.

It may cost you more to live in Laughlin, but most of the people I've been listening to say it's worth the cost - especially if you have kids.

Will write you a report next week.
