I keep hearing "chatter" about Nevada implementing income tax.
Is this for real? Anything new on this?

I believe it is supported by a growing number of Nevadans...2% at the last poll. At this rate it will be voted in just after we get to the 32nd century.

And those 2% are probably transplantees from other states that had an income tax who depended on state funded services.

One of the reasons we are moving to the Las Vegas area
is the reduced cost of living compared to California. We had
concerns that one of our prime motivators would be put at
at risk.

Interesting, after 40 years in Nevada, we moved to California, and we do not find an increase in the cost of living of any significant concern.

Even the socalled tax difference is only 3% on an income of $100,000 per year.

Where to where? There is something like a 25% difference at various places in CA and 4 or 5% in NV. So it depends on from where to where.

Last year our California income tax effective rate was 6.8%
Gas is 30 cents a gallon cheaper
Property taxes will be roughly 1/2 of what we pay now
I can purchase a nicer house for a little more than 1/3 value of our California house.
