In early April we'll be returning to Northern California after visiting relatives in Colorado Springs. Instead of repeating past trips on the boring interstates or going through Las Vegas on Highway 95, we thought we'd come west via St. George UT after seeing Zion.

So, we're interested in travelling Highway 375 that connects Highways 93 and 6; I believe it's the same dubbed the "Extraterrestrial Highway" by the Nevada Tourist Bureau. And, having once visited the "UFO Museum" in Roswell, NM, we're not really interested in the whole "alien" thing.

I'd like to know about the road. From the numbering, I assume it's a state highway. Is it well maintained? Does it travel through the typical Basin and Range country that Highway 50 traverses? Looks like about 100 miles of pretty much empty space on my map of the Silver State. Is there fuel available, perhaps in Rachel?

I'm not sure which direction you'll be coming from but if you can provide that information, I can give you some gas station possibilities.

Hwy 375 is not bad at all. In fact, most of the NV state highways are relatively well maintained and have adequate shoulders in most places.

Google will have Street View available for anywhere on Hwy 375 so you can see for yourself what the roadway looks like. Here it is at Rachel:

Is there gas in Rachel anymore? If not, it's 154 miles from Ash Springs on the 93 (last gas before NV375) and Tonopah, next closest gas. There's nothing at Warm Springs. Going east on US6, there used to be a small store with a pump near Currant, but last I heard it was closed and they were looking for a new owner. Funny thing is near where 375 ends there's oil fields and a refinery, but nowhere to buy gas, lol.

I'm not sure if that tiny gas station in Rachel is still open or not as it's been awhile since I've been through there. Can you tell by this shot on Google's Street View if it's still open? ...well, even if it appears open in that shot, we don't know when that was taken.

Default Thanks

Thank you to all who replied. I'm happy to hear the road will be good. I'll know to have the tank full when hit that Highway.

Great website, TC! Thanks.

So that answers the question about gas: nearest gas is 60 miles south in Ash Springs, or 110 miles north in Tonopah as uli indicated.
