okay I am new to this and dont really know how to start my own thread but my concerns are similar to others listed here. I am conpemplating moving to Pahrump around the fall(Aug/Sept). Planning to live in just small apt(its just me). usually I ride a 50cc Vespa scooter around town and a pickup truck for small trips. are studio or one bedroom apartments available and what is the price range? I am retired so not worried about employment, dont drink. just looking for a nice quiet relaxed, laid back place to live.

any help will be greatly appreciated

FYI...

Lots of apartments in Pahrump, but walk the complexes first.
Talk with tenants.
Spend a few days and nights at a local hotel.
Some 4-plexes and condos for rent. Some around $600/mo.

Pahrump Valley Apts. and Spring Mountain Apts. are subsidized for low-income seniors only.
Rent is based on $633/mo. USDA subsidizes them depending on income.
Apartment interiors aren't maintained to USDA standards, and management leaves much to be desired!
No privacy due to constant inspections.
Rules can be broken depending on who you know. Among the worst are criminal activity, noise, leaking cars, RV parking, walking/cleaning up after pets, facility amenities, and even major auto repairs done by both tenants and management...etc.
Tenants are afraid to complain, feeling that they would be forced out. It HAS happened.

We did research, visited apartment complexes, and talked with tenants before deciding on Henderson.

Definitely not recommended.

Pahrump is a lot like Las Vegas without common sense.
The town is run by nit-wits with nothing better to do... and they get paid more than most hard working people elsewhere...
Up to $6000 every two weeks for town officials (most for a few hours a week).
Crime is higher than much larger cities.
Lots of drug use and domestic violence.
Lots of uninsured, careless, and rude drivers.
Vandalism is high too.

A town official was arrested for major crimes and get off with a slap on the wrist.
That made national news last year for the worst run county in the USA.

Check with local paper before you move, you'll be glad you did. pahrumpvalleytimes.com

Thanks for the information. I was looking at Pahrump because I like the way the houses are spread out.
That's too bad, because it looks like it could have a lot of potential.

I saw a long-haul truck based out of Pahrump, Nevada and his code name was "Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe"; I guess that fits.
