Hi Everyone,
I'm moving to Elko very soon and I need a place to live. The internet is not helpful at all. None of the apartments have website to be able to check out the facilities/ammenities or even the ability to see what they look like on the inside. I am in need of major assistance. If there is anyone out there that can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. I am looking for either an apartment or house... at this point I really don't care.

I checked out the classified ads in the Elko Daily Free Press newspaper Elko Daily Free Press and I couldn't find anything. I don't remember ever seeing apartment buildings in Elko. They're probably there but I think you would have to settle for renting a house.

Small town apartment complexes - especially teh size of Elko's do NOT generally see a need to spend teh money on a huge website as they have a lot of walk-in business.

What I would plan on ddoing is to rent a cheap room in one of the "mom and pops" motels that line the mail drag until you get to Elko. Most of them will give you an inexpensive weekly rate until you can check out the housing in the area.

There are lots of apartment complexes in Elko. My daughter lives in Monte Carlo Apartment Homes and likes it. Others: Parkland, Willows, Sagecrest and others. A rental agency called Sandy's Castles also deals with apartment rentals. There is a shortage though, waiting lists are common and rents are not cheap. I think the idea of getting a weekly rate at a motel on Idaho street is a pretty good one- the Thunderbird gets good reviews.
More expensive but a possibility-- The mobile homes right downtown at the Iron Horse RV Park. They rent them by the day, week, month. Fully furnished right down to pots and pans in the kitchen. I toured one and they are nice. A bit $$ but they usually have vacancies.

Be careful on the Craigslist search many of the "rental" homes on there are scams! We are moving back to Elko in April and we have been looking for rentals as well and have found almost all the homes listed on Craigslist to be scams. When we first moved to Elko we went through Premier Properties and Investments (they are a property management company) and they were great. Good luck!

My husband and I loved Elko! We lived there for six years (moved away for two years due to a death in the family) and now we are moving back. There are some great Basque restaurants in Elko like the Star and Bil-Toki's, some pretty good Mexican restaurants too. Not much for "chain" sit-down restaurants, and most the casino food is mediocre. As for night life it just depends on what you are into. There seemed to always be something going on, especially at the casinos, and there are quite a few events that are really cool like the Basque Festival, Motorcycle Jamboree, Silver State Stampede, Cowboy Poetry etc. We are an outdoor family so we really enjoyed it in Elko, there's lots of fishing, hunting, four-wheeling etc. Hope you enjoy it!
