I'm not aware of going straight to jail, but at the cop's discression, you may have your car towed. If you can't afford car insurance, you shouldn't be driving. You endanger yourself by driving without it. If you get involved in an accident, even if it's not your fault, you are opening yourself up to an expensive lawsuit.

I don't know about the going straight to jail either but Nevada has a new policy beginning this month which will require you to produce proof of insurance when you register a car or at renewals, registration reinstatements and license plate changes.

Yest that is true. That happened to me. I was out of the country for a few months came back to pick up my car around the corner from a friends home and I made a U turn and BAM the was stopped by carson police RIGHT IN FRONT of my apt. Telling me they did not like the way I made my UTurn and why was I out at 2 am...Carson is qick to pull people over and stalk you on the road after midnnight and stop you for ANYTHING.

But, I hear on the tv and radio they are starting to arrest people as well and IF your in a accident you get jail time and you must pay for all damages or you will be sent back to jail if they are not paid in set period of time.
