I am looking to find top quality rock specimens near Las Vegas. I am a member of a rock club and hope to gain directions and guides to suitable sites for collecting rock specimens. All responses appreciated.

I've seen a few guide books to gems in NV, but I cant remember the publishers/authors. I live in Ely and right out of town there's an area called garnet hill where you can gather garnets.

walk out your front door?
You're not in "mineral county" for nothing! There was a fabulous map you should find in a flea market and/or even a library called "Treasure map of the desert" and it covered a lot of spring locations (you can walk right by them if you don't have the map) and collection sites, dry lakebeds, and places the natives quarried for jasper, quartz, geodes, and related.
remember to be prepared for the desert and leave an action plan if you're going out

Any book store probably has at least 50 books on the subject.

Thanks for the suggested reading on places to find rock specimens. I will sit in my favorite chair and plan my next expedition to find 'lions' and 'tigers' and 'things like that'. Sorry, I could not resist. As a retired geologist, I am very well aware of guides and books on rock collection. Some of them are accurate and some of them can be misleading. I find the best information from those who are avid rock collectors that have scoured the countryside and found really good specimens-not usually described in a book as a collection site.

I believe there are also a couple of opal mines north of Winnemucca in Humbolt County, near the Oregon border. I remember there was a thread a few months back of a number of people who were unhappy as they didn't have nearly the success that they were promised by the mines who charged them admission.

I was cruising the web and came across this site. Don't know if it would be of any interest to you but thought I'd post it, anyway.
