Default Can anyone recommend a good small town in N. Nevada to live in?

I was looking at Virginia City to move to but am rethinking that one. I am looking for a small town atmosphere, outdoor recreation, things to do for kids, but accessible to a big city. I am coming from Vegas and looking for a "country" atmosphere. I would love to be near skiing of possible.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Carson city, between Reno and Tahoe, Its the capital and lots to do with out going to far. It has a diverse population. I find the PD a little to over protective but then again its the capital an there are a lot of Politicos in the city. Your 30 mins each from Reno or Tahoe. Close to Virginia City. Loads to do an great shoping with out having to head to Reno. Very affordable both rental and R.E. Also near by is Genoa, Minden & Gardnervile. I find these areas more family like less city but, you will have to drive a few miles to CC to do your major shopping etc.

Also take a look at Fernley if you want small town atmosphere. It's about 32 miles from Reno and Sparks. Skiing would be less than an hour away. Nearby is Lake Lahontan www.parks.nv.gov/lah.htm

Not too much to do in Fernley. The town has a big supermarket, Lowes and Walmart (something you won't find in Virginia City).

Default I would say Old Town Minden

It seems like it would suit your needs.

Affordable homes, not far from Tahoe, nearby shopping walmart, target, costco etc.

Small town feel with homes having underground utilities.

Hospitals are nearby so are highways (395 runs straight through.

Supermarkets in nearby Gardnerville include Raley's, Smith's and Scolari's.

Houses of worship include LDS Mormon, St Gall's Catholic in Gardnerville, many more.

Swim center and Public Library are located in Old Town Minden also.
