The Gabbs Tarantulas! Fuqua's are by far the best manufactured homes. Very well insulated and constructed. We live in a 2200 squarefoot Fuqua. These hot summer days it stays in the 60's and 70's inside, and we have no air conditioning, we just open the windows at night and close them in the day time.
Gabbs is a hoot, It is growing! shock. While you are there visit Berlin Icthysaur state park and Ione. If the bar is open go in for a cold drink.
If you make the time, head east from Ione to the Reese River Valley, as you crest the summit you will look across at the Toiyabe Range, and your jaw will drop, pretty darned fine country.
Then head north slowly along the Reese River Valley, very scenic, you will wind up in Austin. Toiyabe Cafe, then when you return to Reno take old 50 over Carroll Summit.
A great drive.

City data says only 318 people live in Gabbs. This was in 2000 though I wonder what the population is now.
They tore down Florin mall? When was this? One time I saw Tina from Good Day Sacramento there.
I really miss Arden Fair Mall. The mall they have here is lame.

Not NV
If you want a good place in NV to raise your children DON'T move to Winnemucca. Schools are good but high hispanic count, so if your child happens to struggle they will have to wait to get help so that the non english can catch up, crime is high and if you are an outsider it will take about 5 years to fit in. The life style there is do what you want just don't bother me. Nothing I mean nothing to do there. If you want a decent doctor you have to drive 2 1/2 hours to Reno. If you want decent shopping again Reno. You like the heat well, I have seen it snow in June in Winnemucca. Trust me do your homework and avoid Winnemucca it is Hell on earth.

Actually Winnemucca is a fine town. Hispanic kids do pretty well in school with family support. There is much to do there, if you like the outdoors.
Folks come from miles around to shop in Winnemucca.
It has Tips Western Wear, $3,000 hand made saddles, and at least two great Basque restaurants.

Sure those kids do great while yours fall behind. And the outdoors hmmm.......oh I guess you can go 4 wheeling as for much else? Those folks who come from miles actually live out in the ranch areas to shop because there is nothing out where they live. Oh yea and when you want to go out for dinner you have about 4 choices, for a nice meal anyways. Remember this is just my opinion. Greatbasinguide as a young family Winnemucca is full of disappointments and not any real resources for children to grow up. I disagree with the "fine town" JMO

It is true that Winnemucca is not perfect, Paradise Valley purtinear' is.
Out doors activities around Winnemucca;
Mtn biking
Horse riding
Backpacking
road cycling
ghost town exploring.
fishing
hunting
backcountry skiing
White water river kayaking.
and yes, there is 4x4ing.
If a kid falls behind in school, it ain't the schools fault. No one should ever leave it up to the school to educate their kids.
I don't know what "resources" are for children to grow up. But, wild county raises fine children.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Gabbs.....MANNNNY years ago I broke down in the middle of the night outside of Hawthorne. The mayor of Gabbs [Reno Ratti] stopped to help and pushed us in to Hawthorne.....first time I had been pushed at 105 MPH......and the last time...
