We are relocating to Winnemucca from Dayton...husband will be working for Bureau of Land Management. I have some concerns...I am having great difficulty finding rentals in Winnemucca area...need to rent for a while before buying...we have two dogs and a cat that make it a little more difficult. Also, I am concerned about finding a job...I work in the social services field primarily with crime victims...currently as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter, have also worked with survivors of homicide victims, mass victimizations, and as a victim advocate for the parole board. Is there any such jobs in the Winnemucca area? The Winnemucca area looks beautiful, mountains, but I need to make a living. Any information and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

there are VERY LITTLE IF ANY rentals in Winny your best bet is set something up with a hotel or work with a real estate broker.

Sure your husbands company can help you find a place

Try The Humboldt Sun (http://www.humboldtsun.com - broken link) for jobs and rentals. I don't live in Winnemucca but go there often. I don't remember any apartment buildings in town except for a place called Willow Brook. There are plenty of houses in town and you might want to contact a realtor.

As for jobs, I don't know. Winnemucca is the county seat of Humboldt county and you might find a government related job. There are only about 7000 people in W. and probably twice that in the whole county. Not much in the way of crime there but I keep hearing about meth going on.

As for the town itself, it's a nice small town. Once you're outside of town, it's all empty, barren high desert. There are some wooded areas in the mountains nearby.

Sorry, I just looked at the Humboldt Sun site and see that it tells you nothing!

there is a big Meth problem in Winnemucca, but, it's a problem for the entire state and not a isolated problem. BTW you can't read the HS on line you have to order it.

Default relocating to winnemucca

I myself just relocated to Winnemucca at the beginning of June. I also had an extremely hard time finding a place. Part of that reason is the mines are booming and the resorts are hiring for the summer so places are very hard to find. my suggestion would be to move here and do the weekly apartment thing until you can find something. It is a very small town but ppl are friendly. Because it is a small town the demand isn't there for some of the things that we are used to in the big cities.
