Is it possible to make a commute from Reno to North lake Tahoe? I may have an offer in North Lake Tahoe, but the real estate is $$$$$$$. Reno seems reasonable, is the commute possible, and does Reno have major gang problems, crime.

This thread has been brought up before, but Reno to N. Lake Tahoe is not a great commute. It involves mountain roads, some of it two lanes. And it snows here during the winter (elevation about 7000 ft.) and it's possible the roads may close from time to time during the winter because of snow. Icey conditions the rest of the time can be a hazard. Have you checked the area around Truckee. Contributor Greatbasinguide would know this area better than me.

I wouldn't want to do it everyday. I think it would get old fast. But I worked for a man in Reno who commuted from Incline Village for years, and he said in all that time there was maybe once or twice that the weather forced him to stay home. He did finally give it up.

I did the commute from Reno to SLT for over a year. I bought a four wheel SUV, and used that option only one time. However there were two occasions I wasn't able to return to Reno, and stayed overnight in a "snow room". If you work short hours, and don't mind driving for an hour, the commute is no biggie. At the time, I worked 9pm-1am, but if you work a normal 8 hour shift, the commute may be a bit much. I did the drive many, many times to Incline, and believe it or not, it's about the same. As buzz says, you will get tired of it.
