Thanks

None of the above. I did one of the "casino fly-in deals" a couple of years ago and found that the food was very poor in all four places. The cooks in the four casinos could not master simple diner food.

If you are just driving through the area, I would make my stop in Elko and try one of the Basque restaurants. You will get better food and a lot of it for the dollar.

Peppermill, Montego, and Rainbow are all owned by the same company and I believe the prices are the same, Montego being a little more than the other two on weekend nights. I've had buffets at both Montego and Rainbow, and both were mediocre at best. I wouldn't pay full price for either, I guess it's ok if you have a comp or 2 for 1 coupon. I don't know about the Nugget, and if the Red Garder had a buffet, I wouldn't know as that place looks too gross for my tastes.

Unless you like to gamble, It is NOT worth a trip. There are the salt flats and the old air force base and quite frankly, not much else.

Elko would be a lot better choice with a couple of good museums, some good Basque restaurants and a wider variety of hotels.

Montego Bay is a little better relatively speaking. I don't get why people fly into Wendover. Seems like if you want small town gambling suburban Vegas or Mesquite offers a better environment. I would only choose Wendover if there's a race or if you are like me, from Salt Lake and it's just the local casino you can drive home from after you are done playing poker and betting on football.

I can think of several reasons.

First, my last trip cost $159 for air and three nights. It is a pretty good deal, especially out of the Midwest. I have not seen any deals like that out of Chicago and Milwaukee to Laughlin or Las Vegas.

Second, where else can you get into the mountains at that cost? The cheapest I have seen to SLC is $99 OW and that hasn't been available for the past three years.

Third, the casinos in Wendover offer low stake gambling. Most of the casino boats in the Midwest are $10+ / hand for blackjack and there are no sports books.

If they still offered the Casino Express to Elko, I would do that trip a minimum of three times a year.
