Default Battle Mountain or Winnemucca

What are the differences between these two towns? How is the terrain, people, job opportunities? Which one is better and why?

I have no idea what one would do for a job in Battle Mountain. Commute to Elko/Wells maybe? I'm sure GreatBasinGuide will know.

I would avoid Battle Mountain and go for Winnemucca. Winnemucca is a bigger town with a little more going for it. There is nothing going on in Battle Mountain. About 5 years ago, the town was voted the "armpit of America" by the Washington Post newspaper.

My .02

Well the economy in Winnemucca is about 1000% better than Battle Mountain
Theres a big billboard sign that says BM was voted the arm-pit of America.

Theres a super Wal-Mart in Winnemuuca, a race track, several good size Casino's and quite a bit of growth. Not to mention with the price of gold on the rise everything else including property is steadily climbing in Humboldt county, where the bubble has burst and things are dropping all around many other areas of the country.

Been down in CA. Battle Mountain has jobs in Gold Mining. They will take just about anyone that breathes, so there are jobs, Battle Mountain is the county seat of Lander County so there are county jobs.

It truly is an armpit though.

Winnemucca is a very pleasant middle America small town.

Winnemucca over Battle mountain........ I been to both. Winnemucca is a small town but has all the conveniences of a big city. shopping salons, gym, dry cleaners...when I was in Battle Mountain. I found out that I had to go to the Drug store to drop off my cleaning which would not be ready for 2-6 weeks........ So half hr away I went to Winnemucca and had it ready the next day.

Battle mountain is like a ghost town. NOt much to offer no movie house, no gym.........nada.............
