Default Berry Picking in Nevada

Is there anywhere in Nevada where berries grow wild and one can pick them? If so, where and what varieties?

What an interesting question. There are gooseberries in the Mount Rose Wilderness, that is all that I know of.

There are chokecherries all over the place, but I don't think they are edible.

Not very good, although their cousins, the huckleberries are great. The bears starting about now will be consuming 4-5,000 calories a day to get ready for winter. They like gooseberries.

I did a trip years ago up Highway 1 to Oregon. We picked blackberries each day and made pies in the dutch oven over the campfire each night. That was fun, and tasty.

In some of the mountain canyons in central NV, there are elderberries.

Other than that, there really aren't any cane berries in Nevada. They flower too early in the season and their blooms often frost off.
