If you're on a fixed income this is not the best time to relocate to Elko.

It's a great town and I've little doubt you'd like it here but with current gold prices and a great deal of expansion on the part of the mines prices are high and housing is difficult to locate.

There is a waiting list for most rentals. There are homes available for purchase but the local market is fairly inflated.

I'd suggest looking at some of the other towns whose economies are not as closely tied to mining. You'll likely get a great deal more bang for your relocation dollar.

Thanks for that insightful info. I doubt I would have gleaned that elsewhere.

Best regards.

Default Here are a couple of links for you

Welcome to the greatest site on the net, imo. If you've got a question about anything, the people here will come to your aid. A great bunch around here. Below are a couple of sites that might be of help in your search.

Here's one for the Department of Veteran's Affairs. You can search by state. It will give you info that might be helpful

Facilities in Nevada - Locations

Here's one you can use to compare the cost of living from where you currently live and the area you want to live in.
(You'd be surprised to see the difference between say Carson City and Sparks, Nevada)

Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

If you should decide to move to the Reno/Sparks, Carson City or the Gardnerville/Minden area, there are a few links for property management companies I can give you.

After I made the decision to move to Northern Nevada, I started looking in the Gardnerville/Minden area but then looked at Carson City. As much as I like it, I think Sparks is going to be better suited for me. I don't really want to move to Reno but I love the area surrounding it. Anyway, keep checking back here and ask any and all questions you have. You'll find CD a wealth of great information and really great people who are always willing to share their knowledge.

Happily, I am single now, and don't need need a lot to manage. But a move is still a BIG deal for me, and I could sure use some suggestions on where a guy might find a quaint Town where the rent ain't "too damn high", the cost of living is manageable, and the folk are genuine Americana.

I have spent quite a bit of time in Nevada as a retirement destination.

My issue with Elko is the relative remoteness. If your condition requires specialized medical care, you are traipsing to either Salt Lake City or Reno. If your medical conditions are such that they can be maintained in Elko, it might work for you.

Spend a lot of time researching as the costs of relocation are high.

The other is the cost and availability of flights.
