East Truckee River?
It's been probably at least 20 years since I was in the area but I remember what is now called the East Truckee River area as one time being home to auto scrap yards and the (in)famous Mustang Ranch. Looking at some real estate listings it seems to be one of the more affordable areas, anyone know the area and how it stacks up for quality of life? Map shows SP RR tracks near to some development, very active RR? Major annoyance?

Thanks. appreciate the input. I'm not familiat with Wadsworth or Fernley, looks like they could be a long commute to Reno?
From another thread where you talked of business in Spanish Springs. a decent. peaceful residential area?
Big problem for me is as a single man I'd like a small house but at least a 2 car garage. Most new construction is too large for my needs and priced accordingly. I've always liked Carson City and the area around the CC airport seems reaonable, haven't been able to get any input about the area though.

Spanish Springs is nice,,, for a town.. you might be able to afford acreage in Palomino Valley,, if that is what you like.
Fernley is a half hour from Reno,, shorter than Spanish Springs sometimes,, depending on traffic, hard to get in and out of SS.
Also, east of Carson, is Dayton,, maybe affordable..
I am partial to land,, lots of land, rather than a real spiffy house.

It's funny, I like the romantic image of the wide open spaces but I live about 10 miles from Manhattan. I've gotten used to being able to walk for a newspaper or quart of milk. Not having a family of my own I'd like to live somewhere with a sense of community and neighborhood feel.
I started going to the Air Races in '76 and have always liked the area, particularly Carson City. Would just like to find a peaceful, low-crime area, no need or great desire for a big, fancy house. A small deck with a view for morning coffee and an evening glass of wine and I'm a happy guy.
