I am from Mesquite, but visit Caliente a lot. They are building the Toquop power plant next year; which will be located 10 miles north of Mesquite. The question is; how are Caliente jobless people going to compete for some of these jobs. Highway 93 is a long way around to Mesquite from Caliente. There should be pressure from Caliente to have this road shortcut from the Toquop plant directly to Caliente. Thanks Steven Carter

I have, I have also hunted rocks along the tops of the clovers, I have also wiltnessed access roads developed at 11,000 feet for coal mine access in Utah. Roads have this thing called federal assistance and grants, especially where economies are at stake. Someone has to show an interest, positive interest can light fires under two cities, one being Mesquite and the other being Caliente-----Clark & Lincoln.

I got caught in the worst snowstorm of my life(I'm new to Nevada, as is my wife)between Ely and Caliente. Were we ever glad to find the Rainbow Valley Motel in Caliente. I kid you not. We changed elevations about 15 times! That is wide open, rough country. I had to get out and scrape off my windshield wipers about 10 times. Let me just say this: that would be one gigantuan road project!

Let me add to the above snowstorm story. It was from Eureka, NV, to Caliente, NV. More and varied territory to add in, overall. Hideous storm. I'd better get used to it 'cause my wife and I are moving to Elko in a couple a weeks.

Thats kinda the long way around. From Elko to Ely it would have been quite a bit shorter to go I80 to Wells then down 93 to Ely, or take NV 229 at Halleck and cut over to US 93 that way (one of the prettiest drives in the state imo). Once you get to Ely, take US6 west to NV 318. Saves over 40 miles from doing 93 all they way.

Are roads possible? Yes, anything is possible with enough money, but are they neccessary? No. Besides, you have the Clover Mountain and Mormon Mountains Wilderness areas in the way. It takes an act of congress to drive an ATV thru there let alone a road. If anything ever goes thru there, it would be a rail line right on the eastern border to provide coal for the power plant if it happens.

uli2000-thanks for the roads information. My wife and I are still in the "learning" phase with the Nevada road system.

We're driving back up ta Elko once I get my fingerprint cards in the mail, put the proper birth certificate in the licensing package (I used one that wasn't an "official" one, in other words, issued from the City or County where I was born), actually get my fingerprints done at the Willcox police station or the Willcox DMV Express (the new satellite office name for motor vehicle licensing in Willcox, AZ...nothing else I know of is new about it...still in the same location in Willcox...people really threw a stink when word came out that the Willcox DMV might be closed by the State of Arizona) and put them in the package. Then it's off to the US Post Office in Willcox ta mail the package back to the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners.

Then when they get it, they mail the cards to the FBI and another place I can't remember, ta do background checks on me.

We will look for housing when we get to Elko and also I need to get my drug test done and a physical. Lots and lots and lots of details when switching places to live and work. A hideous amount, really!
