Can any anyone comment on Code Enforcement in Douglas county? Lax or strict? Does the county enforce the law? Any experiences you might want to share.

What specific code(s) do you intend to violate? Why do you think the laws should not apply to you?

They are very cool with drivers who do not have a drivers Lic. All they do is ask you to park the car call the owner of the car and find anther form of transportation to your destination. They most likely will not arrest you if you have nothing outstanding and the car is insured and you are able to contact the owner to confirm they are aware that the non lic. person was allowed to drive it.

Thank you for assuming that I wanted to break the law. I am a law abiding citizen that lives in Carson City. A neighbor is running a roofing company out of his house. The city will do nothing. The law is totally discretionary here. I was just hoping to hear that Douglas is better. But with people like you assuming things, why bother.

I was looking for information on people who are allowed to run a business out of the house. Does the code enforcement dept. investigate when there is a complaint? Do they enforce the code? If you are not "connected" do they blow you off?

Are you saying that your neighbor is a roofing contractor or does he have a showroom with samples of roofing material on display? If you are living in a residential area, chances are he is a contractor. He would have to have a contractor's license for that. And he could live any place he wanted to. Further, if he is running a "business," he would have to have a business license. That requires approval from the city. The questions on the application are quite probative; i.e. Will this business have an adverse effect on the neighborhood/area? If they didn't find anything that would be a nuisance to the surrounding neighborhood, they would issue him the license.

There are quite a few people who run a business from their home. It doesn't usually involve heavy traffic, though. Sorry if I'm being obtuse. I guess I don't quite understand your statement about the law being discretionary or that the city won't do anything. Could you elaborate a little more about your situation? It's a little confusing.

What a funny question? Where, in the original post, did you get the idea the OP was intending on violating a law? Wonder what people would think if I asked, "How long does it take all the blood to drain from the average human body?"

Just proves how differently we all think.
