Hello All,

I am considering a move to Pahrump in the next couple of months. My situation is that
I telecommute to work, and thus it's imperative that I have reliable and reasonably
fast internet service, with reliable being the key. I've done some research and it
appears that there is quite a bit of deviation in the opinions people have concerning
the internet providers in Pahrump and the service level. I understand so far that
the providers available are AT&T, CMA, Air Internet, Keyon...(any others?) and that
there is no cable internet ability, only DSL or satellite, correct?

Any opinions on which providers are the best or most desirable? How about availability
in terms of location in Pahrump? I'm looking to rent a house, and if there are certain
locations that are better serviced than others, that would be a determining choice in
where I would live.

Are there any other people on this forum that live in Pahrump and telecommute to
work? If so, what are your experiences?

For a rural community, Mesquite may be a better option . . Reliance Connects (http://www.relianceconnects.com/fiber/fibernev - broken link). Might inquire what the Desert Winds connection speed is.

I work from home and we have a 6 MB CMA cable internet account and a 3 MB AT&T DSL Internet account. Both have been reliable. AT&T has very reasonable overage charges for data usage and CMA has very high overage fees. We have never been charged an overage on either of them and besides working from
Home, we also watch a lot of TV and sports over the Internet. Currently 6 MB is the fastest residential Internet speed available.

The tough thing about Pahrump is that the Internet availability is not consistent. If you are looking to buy or rent a place, you will want to verify if CMA or AT&T has Internet at the address and what speed.

You'll want to verify that everywhere. Just went through the process in Reno and found that you may have good internet in one house and then next door really slow (768k DSL! yack!).. I'd suggest that if you need internet access, decide how fast you need and make sure to check prior to even looking at places.
