If the state placed it on the ballet, it would probably be voted in (but the casinos don’t want it), Gold Ranch has a booth just across the Cal. border. I neither gamble nor play the lottery (but would give it a yes vote).

I don't mean to put words in anyone's mouth, but I get the impression that the OP wasn't bringing up the lottery simply as a means of creating more avenues for people to gamble, but because the revenue that comes to a state through the lottery can be significant and proceeds can go to a lot of great organizations and agencies and for maintenance and repair of muicipal infrastucture, etc.
All one needs to know about whether there is an appetite for a lottery in Nevada is a 5-6 hour wait at Primm to buy Mega Lotto tickets.

My understanding is that instituting a lottery would require a change in the state constitution, so lobbying the legislature won't be enough.

That is true. I believe, if I didn't "dis-remember", it would have to be approved by voters in two elections, then approved by the legislature. The process would take several years. Constitutional amendments are hard to get passed in Nevada. Because of the uniqueness of our state everyone is afraid if we mess wit it, next thing you know we'll be like every other state.

Bump . . .

Since the school related ballot question failed, perhaps there will be renewed interest in NV lottery funding.

There will be a new lottery vendor adjacent to the East side of Mesquite NV, just across the Arizona state line on Highway 91 opposite S Sedora Drive (same building as Polaris dealership).

Beaver Dam Lodge had a $1 million winner.

My concern with respect to a lottery is that, the SAME thing would happen that happened when Gnu Jesey lgalized casino gaming. They pushed for gaming saying the it would fund Seniors Programs....sounded good so all of them voted for it and it passed ..... then they say how much money could be generated and the money was going to seniors programs so the diverted ALL of the original funding to other places and the Sneior programs lost out......

Politics.....Poli tics.....Many Blood Sucking Insects

Much easier to raise the gaming tax or even the sales tax.

Don't have to hire a single head or spend an additional dime.

There is also a reasonable and obvious correlation between money per pupil and performance of the students. Not perfect but reasonably strong.

I would think spending at the US average might not be a bad criteria.
