A petition is probably an exercise in futility, considering previous legislative history . . example. The initiative process may be a better option.

Absolutely. If there is one thing that NV lacks, that would be enough places/ways for people to gamble away their money.

I don't currently live in Nevada, but I have a deep love for your beautiful state.

I don't mean to put words in anyone's mouth, but I get the impression that the OP wasn't bringing up the lottery simply as a means of creating more avenues for people to gamble, but because the revenue that comes to a state through the lottery can be significant and proceeds can go to a lot of great organizations and agencies and for maintenance and repair of muicipal infrastucture, etc.

It's an idiot tax...plain and simple... It will not improve anything except the politically connected and their cronies. For some weird reason some people think that throwing more money at a corrupt organization will fix problems when in fact it will just make things worse. They'll make claims that the money will got to X (usually schools) and that's partly true however they neglect to mention that regular funding will be decreased commensurate with the lottery income. Net result is money for politicians to buy votes with.

This is Casina-vada, and the Casino's will always rule, always have their way!

It would be nice to have a lottery, but I'm too realistic, living in an oligarchic state, like Mexico!

Okay, the last Cali lottery boast a 1/2 billion win for soemone but what is the states cut of that?

What percentage of each win does the state get to keep for itself and generally how are those monies used be a state?

Try to come up with reasons why a state would want a lottery and then consider the casinos and how a lottery would benefit them as well.

Everyone spouts the government claim that lotteries provide money for schools. But does anyone have any statistics on how much it actually provides for schools ...maybe as opposed to how much does it provide to the crooks that run the lottery? And I'm only assuming that the people running it in other states, including thieving politicians, are crooks. And that is because other states don't have our checks and balances. They don't have a reliable version of our Nevada Gaming Commission nor our Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Then I'd like to know what the schools do with the money, and how is throwing more money at schools going to help kids learn. Especially those who don't want to learn. Like the old saying, "you can lead a horse to water...", except in this case the horse has a gun to his head. Or his parents do. You cannot force someone to sit in a classroom for eight hours a day and make them learn. They have to want to learn.

The education system is a joke and more money won't help. In fact in my own personal experience I've found that there is only one thing that will help. And no matter what preconceived notions you might have about it, if you want your kids (or yourself) to learn, this is the only thing that truly works. It also helps older people to regain their previous education. Just by even fairly loosely applying the misunderstood word technology, I've seen miracles in kids, and even in myself.
