People have been warned over and over not to drive through the water when we do get a storm. How dumb are they? This city has no earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes or volcanos. Just a little rain once in a while and people just don't listen. There are commercials and billboards telling people what NOT to do when we do get a large storm.
Would you rather live in California where earthquakes collapse freeways on top of one another? Or, live back east where the snow storms are horrible? I've lived in Ohio where it's gloomy throughout the winter. Where you're so cold you can hardly stand it. Ice on the streets causing accident after accident. Scraping your windows in the morning and heating your car up for 30 minutes before you get into it. Forget that mess. Las Vegas has 3-4 months out of the year where I do admit it is very hot and can be miserable. Other than that I'd rather handle the heat than the snow. |

Henderson is wonderful. This city is growing rapidly. Alot of opportunity for employment and owning a home. Great place to raise children, alot of things to do, close to california if you want the beach.
I've been here for 18 years and don't think I would have had the same opportunities I've had here anywhere else. I've grown right along with this city. I started out doing office work, moved into escrow and title and now I am a top producing real estate agent for the last 15 years. My daughter will be 18 in April and is a wonderful child. I kept a very close eye on her and have directed her the way she should go in life. She will graduate next year and so anyone who says it's not a place to raise children has it wrong. It's all about how you parent. |

I can send you a relocation package if you'd like. I'm a Realtor here and I have tons of information about this city.

Move to Compton then. There is no more crime here than any other major city. You have alot of things wrong about Las Vegas get your facts straight.

I'd rather have the snow and ice with four seasons because it makes you tougher. I lived there for years and felt much better than I do here. I don't like skin cancer as that what the Las Vegas sun in July can give you. Only reason I came back was because of my dad. I also don't like to have to worry about my kid being shot or abducted as every time I turn on the news there is always something bad regarding schools. Give me a small-medium sized city in New England any day.

If you are worried about your kids getting shot...where you gonna go...Suburban Colorado? Ultra rural Pennsylvania? Maybe you really ought to try Manitoba or the Aleutians. That is where you go if kid safety over-rides all other rational criteria. Sheesh. Try it elsewhere..mark my words though..you are going to be unhappy you won't like it there... |

It's always interesting reading the different posts and opinions here. Having lived there for 4 years (1995-1999)I have to say that I had a LOVE/HATE relationship with Vegas.
LOVED IT: Had a great job---same with hubby daughter was at a great school/had a nice home HATED IT: when our first summer was so darn HOT about died from that heat! LOVED IT:Mt. Charleston-hiking up there when it was 115 degrees in Vegas, that was a little slice of heaven in the cooler climate HATED IT: Gambling machines at the grocery stores(learned to ignore them) LOVED IT: Went to see many shows(comp tix)cause of the field my husband was in HATED IT: When the first rain storm hit and I didn't know what to do! LOL 12 inches of rain in 20 minutes was extreme! LOVED IT: Was just far enough away from family that they couldn't just "drop in" for a visit---- Loved when friends/family would visit-found many things to doLOVED IT: that we were able to spend almost 4 years there--and maybe one day go back again(due to type of work husband does) We lived in a nice area, good schools and really had a "family life" I know that at times it didn't seem like it, but after further analyzing what we DID have, we did alright..... With regards to kids being abducted or shot at--get real that happens in small towns too............in fact wasn't a "small town in Vermont" that college co-ed's body was found??? HUMMM crime is everywhere---- NO place is 100% safe------- Just my thoughts |

Come down though under 400K and you need to go to more eastern Henderson. Nothing shabby about these areas...just a lower price point...smaller houses smaller lots, no strip views. There are some shabby areas particularly in old Henderson. And some other less than desirable areas...but mostly Henderson is pretty nice, even outside of GV. . |
