With Nevada's tax income from gaming well below other markets is it unreasonable to expect the casinos to agree to a modest increase?

Should homeowners be saddled with the entire NSEA burden?

School District to ask voters to OK six-year property tax increase for repairs and renovations - Wednesday, May 2, 2012 | 3:05 p.m. - Las Vegas Sun

"Under the proposal, property taxes would increase about $74 annually on a house valued at $100,000 to begin funding high-priority school construction and rehabilitation projects"

I'm not sure why this thread was moved since it is more Las Vegas specific.

I don't know what is fair. It seems to me that the district should have had a sinking fund for renovations built into the budget like businesses do.

Even though $74 per $100,000 is a neglible amount, I think for most tax payers it is a issue of principle.

I don't have answer, but would be interested in what others think.

People who choose to have kids should pay for their education. Having the government steal the money from people and then use it to indoctrinate children, enforce group think and promote authority worship is counter productive to a free society.

Even people without children benefit greatly from public education. A completely uneducated, unsocialized child population would bring with it many more burdens that would be much higher than the taxes. Uneducated and unemployed people are much more likely to commit crimes, do drugs, and be a drag on society.

Does Nevada have an age where you are exempt from paying property taxes on schools? Many states do.

You'd think that was obvious but it isn't. For some reason we are starting to treat education like a burden, victimizing teachers and speaking of "not wanting to pay for it". All whilst China and other emerging economies are doing the exact opposite. Why are we becoming so damn stupid??!!!

You must have been 'educated' by public education, otherwise how could you make the leap from proposing that people who have children pay to educate their own children to meaning that no education is possible? Somehow society managed for 1000's of years without tax supported 'education'. Look up John Taylor Gatto for more information about what you get for your coerced education dollar, and who is behind it.
