Just wait until your registration is set to run out, and then renew it at the local DMV. Unless you get pulled over, or you get a pesky neighbor that turns you in for having out of state plates, you should be fine.

Yeah, run your plates out. Local authorities are used to seeing them. Registering my car in Nevada was a lot more than California, I don't know about your state.

I'm planning on just running mine out. It expires in January and my insurance which was paid in full back in June before I anticipated my move runs out in December, so I'm just going to wait.

Why on earth would a neighbor turn someone in for something like that? That's ridiculous.

If the police stop you just tell them you just moved into town. How would they know any different?

If you are employed in Nevada, you have to change to Nevada plates. Also, you may have problems with your insurance company if you have an accident if they find out you moved

NMVD will also credit you for unused time on your out of state plates I believe

Change the plates
